You guys need to find something else to bitch about.

I have HID's in my mustang too. I have an aftermarket (euro) not high quality mercedes benz quality headlights. They work awesome. I love how the HID's have to warm up when I turn them on and continue getting brighter as they warm.

I love how I can see. I would say they improved my being able to see the road by 15 times. If I didnt have my fog lights on when I drove I couldn't see the road most of the time.

Poor headlight aiming is what you're going to say im sure. They still may be off somewhat but I used and am trained in using the aerodynamic headlight aiming tools we have at the bodyshop I work at.

Its annoying getting blinded by really bright headlights but thats life. Why do you care so much if you're blinding someone else anyways?

I think your HID's are badass! Good job! Good job to the guy to retrofitted the projectors in his black cobra too! Nice!

I have a PNP HID kit that will be coming out over the Christmas break. Although it is a huge improvement over the stock halogen crap, it does make glare. I don't care what anyone else says, it does.

I will be installing either TSX or S2000 projectors. I bought some Hella gen3 ballasts and Phillips 4300K bulbs off eBay, brand new. Got a great deal on them too. Had a custom wiring harness made so it will just plug in and won't require any cutting of wires. I will only have low beams, but that doesn't matter to me.

I already purchased a spare set of headlights to use for the retro. I'll bake them next week to take them apart and see how I'm going to mount the projectors.

I'll take plenty of photos along the way.

i would like to know why everyone thinks that they create glare? the originating point for the light is in the correct location and if you could pull 3200 lumens out of a halogen bulb then it would have just as much "glare"... i ended up showing another friend the lights last night and he went home and orderd a set of his 03 GT because he was worried about this "glare"

the glare has to do with the reflective background in the headlamp. if you retrofit in an actual projector assembly from like a TL or w/e, you never have the ligt hitting the reflective background, it just goes straight out from the projector lens

i understand reflection and refraction... i think what you people are calling glare is just light scatter... normal halogen bulbs do it too you just dont notice it as much because they are so dim.

i agree with needing a projector to do it correctly and getting everthing PERFECT but i have to say that the reflector in the stock headlights is doing a pretty good job and getting light in the right places. if you want to spend another 250-300 dollars on new housings that look like comlete a$$ and will garuntee you to get ricer comments as well as make your wallet 300 dollars lighter then by all means go ahead and spend it since you make so much... but for normal people who just buy parts that actually work for what they were designed for the 9007 kit from stangmods does amazing... if you actually saw this in person you would see what im talking about, it is NOTHING like the Faleen that cruises around greenville, he has a 8000k HID kit in it and it really does throw light everywhere like a 96-00 honda civic does when you retrofit them... also when most people "retrofit" they dont actually place the projector unit in the housing they just use the bulb and ballasts... and if you think a d2s or d2r bulb alone in a 9007 housing is going to work then ill let you blind the other drivers... i know of 3 diffrent cars with this setup and it SUCKS when you seen them coming up the road at you or if they are behind you... this kit is COMPLETELY diffrent than those.

i enjoy my thumping bass, 4.10's and my HID's

a Neil Pert Solo at 70mph and nuclear explosions going off in my headlights is the only way i roll!

At every stop light/sign, anytime anyone else could hear my music I turn it down so they dont have to hear it. Which would be better though? Blinding someone for 2 seconds, which they shouldn't have a problem with because they shouldn't look into the light they should look to the fog line on the right side of the road.

Or having them be slowed down as the tow truck pulls your mustang out of the ditch because you cant see where you were going?

The problem is that like NH said, the halogen reflector isn't designed to be used with a HID bulb.

I'm done reading all the arguing. I'll just throw in my $0.02.

I love my kit. EVERY person who has driven in front of me and past me said they did NOT blind them by any means and drew a lot of attention to the car. I wouldn't replace them for anything.

*god my car looks like crap here. Old GT hood and stock 00 headlamps. YUCK! ahaha*

It's not that the point of focus of the light changes. That doesn't. It's the fact that the intensity of the light is far greater. Most of the light is directed to the proper cutoff line and below, but all reflector lights do scatter some light above the cutoff line. With a halogen light, this is fine because halogen lights aren't really all that powerful anyway. With the HID's, now you have a little more light escaping above the cutoff line. This is why MOST OEM HID setups do not use reflectors. There are some on older designs, but if you follow certain models you'll see the majority have swapped over to projector-style lenses because they maintain perfect cut-off lines.

The cars that do use OEM reflector-style HID's use a different bulb. Their HID bulb is painted and shielded on the top to drastically reduce light output cast to the top of the reflector housing.

Also, some PNP kits change the intensity point of the bulb. In a halogen bulb this would be a filament but in the HID bulb it's the small ball in the center that holds the salts. Some of these rebased bulbs move this out changing the way the light reflects off the reflectors.

Ok, not all PNP kits are equal. You may have a quality kit where the manufacturer paid some attention to bulb location inside the housing. But some kits suck ass. I was at a light a few weeks back and there was this whte V6 Mustang with HID's that were just blinding the hell out of me from 100 feet away. I couldn't even see as i drove past him. My own HID kit was much better, but still glared. Granted i probably could have driven around for months without a single complaint, but the glare bothered me. I'm a perfectionist, so if i were to do HID's it would need to be a projector retrofit...so i took my kit out.

As for these pictures of the cutoff. Taking the shot 10 feet away against a garage isn't gonna tell you much unless cars drive 10 feet away from you. You really need to shoot your lights against the side of a building 100 feet or more away and see how the light spreads on that
