Alright, I searched previous threads and didn't see any info. I'm currently collecting parts for my 90GT to swap the brakes to the Cobra set up. I have the front set up off of a 98 Cobra, and will be looking for the rear set up soon. I understand the front brakes will give me a greater track of about 1/4 inch, and the rear axles from a '96+ should increase it by about 3/4 a side. When fitting wheels to this combo, will the '05+ wheels fit better than the 94-04? I don't want the wheels sticking out of the fender, as I don't prefer that look. Wouldn't the '05 wheels, which are still 17x8, with a greater offset, fit better? It appears the standard offset for 94-04 wheels is about 30mm, and the 05+ is about 45mm. Wouldn't that bring the wheel itself slightly back into the wheel well, giving it the more classic appearance? I know there are a thousand of you guys with the five lug conversion out there. How many of you went with pre 96 spindles and axles to keep the stock track, and how many with post 96? And how was the wheel fitment with whatever type of wheel? Has anyone tried to fit the 05+? Thanks for the help!

05+ wheels work well with the 96+ swap front and rear.

Only the 17x8 will fit. The 18's will hit the strut. MM&FF covered this a few issues ago. They have a pic of a Fox GT wearing the 05+ bullitts. They look great

I almost wonder if it wouldnt be better to use 01-04 Bullitts up Front and the 05 < on the Rear.

I checked the MM&FF website and couldn't find that article. I have an issue of 5.0 Mustang (Nov '06), where they covered a silver 93 GT ("Sage Advice") with a set of bullitts. This car had the '95 brake hardware, though, and they didn't specify what year bullitt wheel. If my eyes are still calibrated (ahem), they look to me like the 94-04. Is that the same article you're talking about?

No, this was a one page article with pic on specifically putting 05+ bullitts on a two tone blue/gray Fox GT.

It may have been 3 or 4 issues ago. It was only one page though.

Already was thinking of that. I wanted to run four 17x9 wheels on my car, but i have the SN95 rear track in the rear. So i was thinking SN95 17x9's up front and S197 17x9's out back.

You two are confusing the hell out of me. Aren't the 94-04 wheels actually more suitable for the rear, since the rear track appears narrower than the front? The narrower the track, and the less the wheel offset (positively), why wouldn't that make the wheel fill up the rear wheel well moreso than a wheel with a greater offset? My thinking must be backwards. It seems logical to use the 05+ in the front, with the greater offset (wheel wise) and wider track (suspension wise), so the rim sits inside the wheel well. Then use the 94-04s in the rear to again fill the wheel well. There's much more space between the tire and fender in the front than in the rear, at least on my 90GT, and I'm running 235/60-15s in front and 255/60-15s in the rear. Why am I thinking backwards?

With the 94+ rear brake setup, you've increased the rear track to be wider than the front. That means the rear wheels will stick out further than the front.

The 05+ wheels are deeper, so running these wheels vs the Sn95 wheels will suck the wheel in slightly more in the rear.

If you are only thinking of the 05+ bullitts, you should be fine with your 98 Cobra setup and the wheels.

The front spindles actually give you a 14mm increase in track (not 8mm as commonly said)

Thank you to mustangfreak88 for the article posting!! Those wheels do look great on the GT.

With all the info I've read on the brake swap, I didn't know the Cobra brakes had a greater track than the others. Is the difference in the year of the mustang, or the fact it's a Cobra?

It has nothing to do with it being the CObra. It's the year Mustang.

The spindles are the same for each model of each year. That means a 2004 V6 Mustang has the same spindles as the 2004 Cobra and Mach 1 and GT.

The difference is between 94-95 spindles and 96-04 spindles.

The 94-95's increase track about 9mm

The 96+ increase 5mm for a total of 14mm.

The popular beleif used to be that 94-95 retain stock track and 96+ increase 8mm but evidence (CAD Drawings from a Ford engineer) is proving otherwise. More details if you want to know more are in the thread i linked above.

I must be a moron for two reasons, at least that I can see. First, when I quote someone, it doesn't look like anyone else's. Second, I don't see the link for the info you're referring to. And if I didn't mention it, you were right. The s197 wheels looked at home on the Fox body. Given the relatively cheap prices offered for 05 take off wheels and tires, it seems the way to go.

Thank you again for your help.

keep in mind the tire size one the s197 is wrong for the fox. It's a 235/55/17 which is a very tall tire. You may have rubbing issues on a Fox and it will toss the speedo off. You will need to swap it for a 235/45/17 or 245/45/17
