I've been reading other threads that have said that the 2005 v6 mustang is going to start at around $18,000 and that the 2005 mustang gt is going to start at around $25,000. Car and Driver and Motortrend have given similar prices for the gt but i was watching the video of the introduction of the new mustang at the NAiAS and noticed that the speaker said that BOTH the 200 and 300 hp mustangs will start at UNDER $20,000. So i am wondering what the actual estimated starting price for the gt will be. The vid is posted below along with a link to the mustang trilogy video:

under 20k for a 05 gt is a pipe dream

If the '05 GT is under $20k, I'd expect a lot of trade-ins on 2004 models and probably a decrease in value.....

Yes, we have all heard the "rumors". Many believe it was a slip of the tongue. I seriously doubt that a V8 model will be available for under $20K.

here we go again.

that's a pretty big slip of the tounge and still no word from ford to say that it was a mistake.

LX a possibility but i am not going to bet on it, but i am not ruling it out either.

Yeah it's looking more and more like a pipe dream. But that won't stop people from bringing it up.

What I don't get it why people instantly think GT when V8 is mentioned. Although not consistantly offered, the Mustang was available in basic trim with a V8 right up to the end of the FOX body. I am a realist and don't expect it, but if it does actually happen you can bet you butt that "GT" will have nothing to do with it... It will be a V8 with the minimum drivetrain requiered to make it safe for the power - that's your 20K V8. Mays was way to clear about it and I've seen it backed up by the press a few times. Ultimately seeing it on my paperwork when I'm buying the car will be the only way I'll believe it. I can see them solidly doubling the sales figure of the last few years with this ploy - maybe that's what they're after.

GT price $26,900 -
Perhaps the ST (V6 car with the 3 valve V8) for $24,900.

First of all, no one said a GT will start under 20,000 dollars. A V8 mustang will.

2nd of all, where is everyone getting these "prices"? no prices have been laid down yet. these are all magazine guesstimates...

3rd of all, when a speaker from ford in front of a national show says very specifically, mind you, that a v6 and v8 mustang will both start under 20,000, i am believing it until someone from Ford proves otherwise. I could care less what these mags say.

As as someone said before, Ford has not invalidated these claims.

I am not getting my hopes up, but these are the facts.

opinion:
now again, a basic 19,999 v8 mustang is not far-fetched. it would compete directly with the Dodge Neon SRT-4 which is the same price. (which has no price to performance competition right now)

I hope there will be a basic bare bones V8 model. That would be a great car to make fast since it would weigh less right from the get go. And if it's cheaper, that leaves room for mods right off the showroom floor I doubt what that guy said was all adlib. Everything he said must have been approved by someone higher up, giving out price figures is too important for anyone to ***** up.

You may get an '05 GT coupe close to $20,000.00 with certain plans, incentives, rebates included, but I don't think it will be below $20,000.00. '04 GTs are right below $20,000.00 now with all the above attached to it so don't expect the '05 to be below.
