2005 Mustang V6 - Room for adding more horsepower?

I was wondering if the '05 V6 Mustang could be easily modded for some extra horsepower. What are some good ways (nothing too expensive) to go about doing this? I think it would be nice to achieve 250 bhp or somewhere around there if possible.

Definitely. From what I understand, it's basically the same V6 that is in the Explorer. Don't they have superchargers for those?

Besides, they come stock with 210hp. That's about what the V8's were putting out in 94-97.

Thanks. I found a link on mustangmonthly.com to a couple of products that claim can add up to 35 bhp to basically any car and also increase the fuel efficiency. They cost about $70. I don't know if anyone has ever tried those and if they live up to the claim, but maybe thats an inexpensive option.

Off topic, do you know of any websites that basically list what kind of engines/horsepower a lot of the older muscle cars to current day had/have? I would like to compare the V6 Mustang's 210 bhp engine to some of those cars and see where it stands.

Don't by the "tornado" or the "spiralmax". They are a total scam. Don't buy ANYTHING that claims to add 35hp for $70. You should expect to pay $500+ to get half that.

In terms of power output, the V6 is limp-dick compared to the muscle cars of old. Even then, it's still no slouch. Motorweeks' test found that the V6 does 0-60 in 7.0 seconds.

Read the article on SN's Homepage "2005 Steeda Q400." I'm sure they'll be getting around to the V6 in no time.

the 4.0 while a great factory engine doesn't have the potential that the essex 3.8 family has.

it is not as strong and does not have the breathing capabilities as the 3.8

250 and even 300 BHP is possible and probably alittle more with the 4.0, but it will never come close to the 3.8 for potential.

It's a new format. It's common knowledge that it's easier to get power out of older engines.

So... what are the facts? Why would Ford go with a less efficient, weaker engine with less breathing ability? Makes sense...

What are the strengths of each engine, and what are their respective breathing capabilities, for us that don't know?

Well yes and no. There are 2 companies with them in the works. It is the same enigne as the Range also. The same one in my Ranger. There are a few people on a ranger forum that have custom superchargers on theirs.

What is it called ? Do you have a link ? I am thinking its too good to be true but you never know.

Push Rods are the way of the past Over head Cams are where its at today. Like Penguin said why would ford go backwards with a less efficient engine that can't breath as good. I heard the same thing in 1996 when ford stopped the 5.0 and went with the 4.6. Over head cams have less moving parts between the crank and valves. Less moving parts equals better durabilty, better efficiency, and better RPM range. The 3.8 is a great engine but it had its time and the 4.0 SOHC has its time now and in a year to 2 when the aftermarket starts coming out with some cool stuff the 4.0 will really shine.

When I see five 2005 V6's run 11s in the quarter, like 04 and previous 3.8s, then I'll know there's a better aftermarket available for it. Oh, I got those stats from www.v6power.net
