At least the challenger looks like a production car. There are things about it that definetely wont make it to production (wheel size, carbon fiber hood). But the Camaro looks like a concept car pipe dream, if a new Camaro goes into production it will only bear a small resemblance to this concept.

As for bringing the Camaro and Challenger back im all for it. If the muscle car wars of the late 60's early 70's are any clue as to what will happen here then we are in for a real treat. look at the progression of each. Mustangs went from secretary cruisers to GT500's to the Boss 429. Camaro went from sporty coupes to SS models with 454's to Yenko's. Things are only gonna get better from here. (I'll always be a mustang man though.)

I believe there's room for muscle car coupes to compete against the Mustang. However, anything named Camaro or Firebird is going to have a hard time competing in the marketplace, no matter how GM packages it or powers it. Anything after the 60's and early 70's just has too much of a Knight Rider/80's stigma attached to it. Plus, there's only going to be so much appetite for retro styling before we're saturated. Ford already nailed it and Chrysler will be next.

GM would be much better off focusing on a restyled, LS-2 powered coupe and releasing it as a new GTO or Chevelle or just plain "SS."

Kind of odd. If I look at it quickly (like, in passing), it's not half bad. If I really look at it, it looks awful. REALLY don't like that front end. I think it's a step in the right direction, though. Like most others, I'm more impressed by the Challenger.

Its alright...all I can hope is that its heavy lol. My friend loves it and is going to buy one "even if it costs $700 per month". He has an 02 SS right now, and has had camaros in the past. But you will definatly get attention with that.

If GM actually Brings that to market as a Camaro or a Chevelle... the Mustang is gone... Period.

That thing is Bas as Hell and if it gets 400+hp... or a Z28 version with the 500hp motor... DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think they will bring that car out but i doubt it will out sell mustangs... chevy's don't have much "cross over" appeal as do fords... seriously... i still like the challenger much better...

LS7 in Camaro Z28 or SS

I wanted to go back to the idea of a LS7 camaro Z28 and/or SS. I agree that engine belongs to a 70k car, but would it significantly increase the price? Beyond that of say a GT500?

If this car is released in '08 as an '09 model then the LS7 corvette won't be the "new hotness" anymore. Maybe by then chevy will even tune it up a little more so that an '09 Z06 will make something like 530 hp or something.

This would leave GM the option of putting a detuned LS7 putting out around 475-500 hp much like the shelby. After all, isn't this pretty much what they did with the LS1 camaro? Or am I wrong? In my mind they have to produce a camaro capable of competeing with the GT500 or new Boss or whatever is on the horizon for mustang in '08 and '09.

Also the new camaro won't have all the suspention, interior options, or lighter frame, that significantly adds to the 70k cost of the corvette.

The more I look at it the more I see that the biggest problem with this new Camaro is the front end. It's terrible period. I'm a huge 1st gen fan and all I can say is the people who put together this front end are NOT Camaro fans. The rest of the car isn't too bad except the interior which sucks as bad as the front end. If this car comes to market as is the Mustang is SAFE and SOUND! The new mustang is one badass overall car and the appeal of owning one isn't going away because of a Camaro that comes in with more HP. Mustang owners have dealt with that for 35 years. It's not dying out at the likes of a Camaro that looks like this. Look at the feedback on this so far. It's like half and half even on boards more friendly to gm. That's not good. Half of the Camaro fans who've been praying and pushing for the new Camaro to come weighing in with distaste. They need to fix the front end period. It really looks more like Kit than a Camaro.

The red car isnt bad. The back half of the car is pretty nice actually, and if the front end point motif wasn't so dramatic it would be more appealing. It looks like someone had a good idea and started going with it, but when they got to the rear doorline the idea started to get a little fuzzy and they didn't know what to do.

Making the concept a little less chop topped might do a lot for the car.

It's definately an interesting look. But let's be realistic. Does anyone think GM will actually build it? Personally I'm thinking there is a better shot. At seeing a next generation Edsel before GM builds another camaro.

Making the concept a little less chop topped might do a lot for the car.

It looks closer to the crossfire front end than a camaro front end.
The mirrors, front and interior if changed would make this a killer camaro.

I hope you're wrong. Sure would be nice if the Japanese imports were out of the picture making plently of room for another American Muscle showdown.

I wouldn't hold your breathe on that one. Ford didn't bother with the last couple generations of comaro as competition. And we know which car one the sales battle. So I don't expect them to think they need bigger or faster to beat it again.

The challenger will go into production... it'll be intorduced in 2008 as a 2009 model and will be built on the LY (next generation LX) chasis.

Rumours coming out of the GM tech center is that the Camaro will be introduced during that same time frame, but right now those are only rumors.

Looking forward to seeing a 4000lb. Challenger and the 3920lb. GT500 face off. (not that I am anti-Mustang but competition is good)

The only reason the Camaro didn't hold the same kind of appeal as the mustang is because as usual GM burplpuked on itself in 1970 and destroyed a really great car. The first gen is the only real camaro and the only camaro to ever have serious appeal equal to the mustang. I agree the mustang is the best package for the money and the sweetest looking ride to come along in a very long time.
