what do i need to do to fit 275/40/17 at the front wheels?
I autox my car and would like to fit wider tires in the front eventually

they will fit as is, but will stick out a little and the turning radius will be less (the tires rub the sway bar)

I run a 275/40 up front with zero rubbing or fitting issues. The only thing i don't like about it is when driving on the street, they pull you all over the place.

I already slightly rub with my 255 tires on the front when im going slow and turning my wheel all the way to the left

Are you running the stock-height suspension? 255's shouldn't rub under normal circumstances. My 275's rub the sway bar only on full-lock turning when going slow, and thats with a 2" drop. What wheels are you running?

yeah i have steeda springs so its dropped some, it only rubs at full lock also

I have 17x9 black bullit wheels in the front

I dont rub at full lock(03 cobra arms fixed this) but it does rub if i corner fast or hit a good size dip in the road.

They definitely do pull all over the road....

495 in Northern Va felt like I was just a co-pilot.
I had absolutely no fun with them on my car and I've tries lots of wheel combos. My best fit is a 255 and 265 at the largest for the fronts on 17's/18's/19's. I run 255/35 on all of my front rims.

The only way to fix this is with more positive caster correct? (the pulling all over the place part)

yes, positive caster will improve the stability, as well as induce more negative camber during cornering.

Seems wild that 275s are seemingly not a great choice up front when so many stangs have them on all four corners OR have the popular wheel upgrade to 17x9 and 17x10.5 with 275s and 315s.

I notice that my car tracks the road nicely, but not like my Jeep Grand Cherokee. On the exact same roads, my stang makes you aware of road irregularities, whereas, the Jeep just rolls over everything and isn't affected except under much more extreme road irregularities.

Would going from a 245 to a 275 up front be the same difference as going from a normal passenger (taurus, jeep, whatever) car to a 245/45/17? Hopefully not. I don't have any problems steering, but I know better than to just take my hands off the wheel for a couple seconds and trust that the stang will stay straight.

I can't imagine that the difference is so much that the ride is just bad and leaning towards unsafe. Am I reading to much into this?

I don't think it's unsafe IMO. I've just tried a few set-ups and I just prefer the 255-265's up front. 275's are not a bad choice if you want a hella lot of handling in curves and so forth.
I never used a 245 up front.
