well to start off i have two T5's, one 87 4cyl unit with a busted third gear and cluster, the second is a 95 V8 unit with a bent mainshaft. I took everything off the 4cyl shaft and put those parts in one spot, then removed all the gears from the bent shaft(well, it was mostly disasembled and in bags already). I put all good gears, V8 syncro's(looked perfect), etc.. onto the straight 4cyl mainshaft. But i wasnt sure about the shims. I'm pretty sure i put them in the right places but no guarantees, i'm thinking i forgot to put a shim behind the 2nd gear syncro so now it doesn't have enough pressure to slow it down all the time, so it will grind if i dont granny shift. I had at least 1 or 2 extra shims from the V8 trans, but they could have gotten mixed up with the 4cyl parts so i'm not completely sure where they came from, any pointers? i will pull the trans tomorrow and inspect, Thanks for any opinions or facts
EDIT: if somebody could post a picture of the cluster and point out which gear and syncro are for 2nd gear i would really appreciate it, i dont want to change anything else but 2nd, 3rd never grinds no matter what

Make sure you inspect the 2nd gear dog teeth and inside teeth of the 1-2 synchro sider for wear as those can lead to grinding as well. Replacing the blocker ring isn't always the cutre for grinds.

can you explain what the dog teeth are? Sorry for my lack of terminology, i know the basics and try to compare everything to pictures as it goes back together..ill assume they are the teeth that the 1-2 slider meshes with, right? i'll check everything very carefully and probably switch sliders with the old trans because that one only ground second 1 time in the morning
