3.73 gears or 4.10 with a SC car?

Hey...I just purchased a '03 DSG GT and wanted to start modding right away. I figured I'd start with a different gearing but wasnt sure of which between these two since this time next year, my car will be super charged.

I know 4.10s will give me crappy gas milage but seem to be recommend more so than 3.73.

Even with a SC on the car, would it still be recommended in getting 4.10s? or sticking with 3.73.

Does anyone know how much the 4.10s affect the gas milage on a SC car and a non SC car?

My car is a 5-speed if it helps and I dont hit the track that often.

Well, since you don't go to the track and possible S/C in the future=3.73 (FRPP only!)

Stick with the 3.73's. The difference in acceleration won't be all that much right now unless you were driving an automatic (which you're not). Going to 4:10's now, you may find that it will need to be geared down to make the most of your powerband after the supercharger install.

General consensus is 3.73's with a power adder and 4.10's if N/A. I like my 3.73's, they compliment the blower nicely......

3.73's. for 2 reasons.

#1, traction.
#2, you won't have to shift as fast.

Am I the only one that does not recommend gears to people that are supercharged? When I had my 01GT, I had 3:73's. I ran 13.11's on stock suspension. I hated it when I would just stomp on it at a light and the tires would go up in smoke. I can not imagine how bad traction would be with a supercharger. I was NA and it was still doing that.

Uhhhhh, the gears aren't going to effect gas mileage NEARLY as much as the supercharger. Get into boost a couple times and watch that needle DROP.

I have 3.55's and no traction at all in 1st gear with the stock Goodyears. The Nittos go on next week.

What I always thought was 2v = 3.73 and 4v = 4.10 with centrifigual blowers. From what I always understood was you NEEDED those gears to put you in the powerband quicker because centrifigual blowers show no boost until 3-3.5K RPMs. As for the 2v and 4v difference, the 4v can rev higher hence the higher gear ratio. I just got my 4.10s installed 2 weeks ago in my 96 cobra. I will be putting a Vortech blower on for next year and I am not changing the 4.10s. 4v + 4.10s + S/C = teh win

Ahhh, but what if he uses a positive displacement style blower (Kenne Bell, Saleen, Roush, etc) that give him nearly full boost right off idle. No need to swap out to such a steep gear then. For my money, i'd rather have the instant torque, myself.

Agreed - With the positive displacement blower, I can't imagine anything more than the 3.55's I have now. 1st gear spins with throttle rollon from 1500 rpm on up.

if you have the cash for a supercharger/gears and want to go to the track then you should have no problem buying a pair of slicks to fix your traction problems. why would you add 100-200 more HP just to bog it down with 3.55 or 3.73's. gears dont help traction, tires help traction.
