I'm thinking about upgrading to the 3.73s. i know that w/a 5 spd. and 4.10s, first gear is pretty much useless. How about 1st w/3.73s. Are there any traction concerns w/stock rubber?

I can go about 30 in 1st at about 5500RPMs. Not useless. 4.10's will put your motor at 4,000RPM's for the next gear. That should be about your torque peak RPM. I said they're perfect!!!
I know what you mean... I want to get the best I can, but I also don't want to burn this motor, even though it is EFI.
I want gears that give me the push, but I still want to run highway speeds over 80mph wihtout killing my motor minute by minute.

I've had 4.10's for about a month now and they are great!
In bad weather, start out in 2nd and you get a smooth take off. Doesn't bog down like with 3.27 gear.
Definitely recommend the FRPP aluminum drive shaft, too. Had some vibration and noise with the stock shaft after 4.10 installation was completed.

I don't get this. Why do the 3.73s suck? Aren't they still much better than stock gears?Pughman said:

what about gas mileage on 4.10s? I do a lot of interstate driving everyday. I don't want to pour a ton of gas money into this car (cuz I already do

So far, I'm getting less that 1 mpg difference. Not bad considering that I've been "testing".

Ok. That gives me a better idea. So 3.73s are about halfway between stock and 4.10s.Pughman said:

Not true, young chimchim. Depends on your application. I am very glad I have 3.73's not only for the highway but I've been able to drive the car in snow and ice. 4.10s would have been too much.
