Not true, young chimchim. Depends on your application. I am very glad I have 3.73's not only for the highway but I've been able to drive the car in snow and ice. 4.10s would have been too much.

Ok, then. Have you ever tried the 4.10?

Ok. That gives me a better idea. So 3.73s are about halfway between stock and 4.10s.

I drive mine through snow and ice too. Its not too bad, you just gotta be a little easier on the gas than when youre stock.

How Much in labor has everyone paid to get the gears installed and also how many people with 4.10's in an auto think that they are too much cruising at 70mph and what is the top speed with them

KNow i have a Question for everyone.

I drive my car everyday on the freeway but i need a new gear ration.

If i drive my car at high speeds alot and dont wanna wear down my engine what would be a good Ratio for me?

i know that w/a 5 spd. and 4.10s, first gear is pretty much useless.

how do yo know? you ever driven a 4.10'ed stang? 1st gear is not useless by any means. i still cruise around parking lots in 1st.

Are there any traction concerns w/stock rubber?

there are traction concerns w/ stock rubber and stock gears, of course after market gears will make it worse

ive said it before, but i suppose i have to say it again. 4.10s are for N/A guys OR if you are on a strict budget and want the most performance since you dont have the $$ for all the other bolt-ons. if you get L/Ts, cams, TB/plenum, midpipe, etc etc, i dont think you would need 4.10s b/c you have all that other hp. for me, i got 4.10s b/c i knew i wouldnt have the $$ for a lot of bolt-ons for a while, so i wanted the most extreme performance i could get

If you drive on a freeway all the time I would suggest 3.73's because that is what I am going to get!! 70mph plus get the 3.73 otherwise you will be wasting alot of gas and wearing your engine

I would have went 4.10s, but here is my problem. A. i dont want to be taching 2400-2500RPM at 65-70MPH. B. I dont want to have to go into 5th gear at 100MPH (main problem). If your running close to someone (say Z28) and there you come up on 100, say byebye when you hit 5th. Even this one guy with 4.10s said he he deliberately shut a race down at the end of 4th (100MPH) because he knew he would get passed when he hit 5th. once you have some bolton you will have to hit 5th at the end of the 1/4...3.73s you can pull to 115 @5400-5500 in 4th gear, leaving plenty of room for growth....you have to be a heck of a driver to powershift (or shift fast for that matter) 5th gear.To risky of going back into 3rd durring a hard shift into 5th.
