300 rwhp?????

I saw an artilce in a magazine that showed an O/R h pipe did lose hp but it gained torque. They bolted on several different things in search of 300 rwhp. One of the last things they did was install an O/R h pipe instead of the high flow catted pipe.

Which magazine was this article in, that you saw ? Unless, it's either 5.0 Mustang and super Fords, or Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords ! I'll pretty much take magazine articles with a grain of salt lol. Thanks to advertising and marketing campaigns, companies use along with paying out big $$$, just in order to get their products sponsored. :flag:

No doubt. I don't trust any of them for that kind of info. I'd rather look at dyno sheets from real people on here and other Mustang boards, that aren't getting paid for posting their results.

Why do we attack others?

And just what in the hell, does taking it to the track, have anything to do with the topic at hand ? The bottom line is this ! not all us Mustang enthusiasts, take our cars to the track nor are in the least bit concerned, as to who's car is faster/better over somebody else's. And most of all, could care less about proving to themselves, as to whether or not their car is superior, by handing someone's butt to them ! Therefore, if you wish to re-live some high school fantasy of yours ? that's entirely your business. However, for those of us that choose to live in the real world ? actually depend on their Mustang's, as daily drivers, who also enjoy driving them as weekend cruisers, and NOT as some playtoy, or track car ! In addition, some of us also enjoy showing our Stangs at weekend car cruise and show events, as well..And btw, perhaps you may have money to burn ? But most of us can't always afford taking their cars to the track ! Especially, if something like a cam or head component, should happen to break while under warranty. That being said, either post you're comments, that deal directly with the topic at hand ? Otherwise, keep your self centered remarks/opinions, to yourself..:OT:

Wow, way to flame up. High school fantasy, not hardly. I had to work my way through high school, so I didn't know about the fun of legal Drag Racing till now. By the way I am an Airman in the Air Force so I have no money to burn and depend on people on this forum like Big Cat with great write ups to keep me from wasting money. Running at the track isn't about having the fastest car and for the most part if you go it is a car show every night your track offers a test and tune night. Walk through the pits on said night and ask anyone about their car, it instantly turns into a car show, any way running your car is only a small part of the night as the 1/4 mile clips off at 13 some seconds or faster anyway. Asking when you get run down what the other guy is running is just a real world way of knowing that someone else has a better set up. May be it is the exact same set up with bolt on's minus that guys catted H or X Pipe. If you were behind him you know what it sounds like and if you liked it, then you know what to start saving your change for.
I drive my car everyday there isn't snow on the ground, so don't preach "mine is a daily driver" to me. I know that I have to keep mine street-able also. If you would make a friend or two and go to the track you would know that it's just like a bar for alcoholics. I bought my stang because they run and are reliable and look great doing it. If you chose to run yours illegally on the streets, that is your call.
Stangbanger01gt sorry for having to high jack your thread like this, but I took that last post a little personal. Just to add to the fire though, I have herd catted and o/r pipes and I will put out the extra money for a high flow catted pipe when the time comes because I think they sound better and have always been taught that that little back pressure up close to the motor makes more torque. That is where the real fun is anyway is the torque not the peak horse power. Peak horse power is only seen during illegal street racing and at the drag strip, but torque is used at every stop light and in stop in go traffic. Just my $.02 :bang:

I believe it might have been Mustangs and Fast Fords. Nothing I have a subscribtion to, just something I picked up off the shelf. Sorry I don't still have it. Didn't mean to start a big fight with the kids on here just something I did read and was passing along. By the way I do have the Pypes O/R H-pipe on my 05. I can feel the difference but it is perhaps too loud at certain rpms.

You didn't start some big fight on here at all..some of my posts, were just the results of an misunderstanding, which has since been resolved..On the other hand, if I do decide to upgrade to an aftermarket mid pipe ? It will be a high-flow catted H or X-pipe..As I recently found out, that once you remove the cats ? an off-road mid pipe, is known for trumpeting and sounding both as tinny and raspy..Anyway, for right now..I'll be considering either Pypes Violators ? or MAC axle backs, to go along with my factory H-pipe..

Here's an old article, I came across from Alteranative Auto's archives, which covers how efficient and low restrictive, the stock exhaust has been known for..In which, even after installing aftermarket headers, high-flow catted H pipe, and aftermarket axle backs..The Mustang gained, no more than 10-15 HP on the dyno, at best ! Anyway, I'll post it for those who may be interested, in taking a look at it .. 2005 GT Performance Exhaust Update
We've now moved on to installing a set of MAC 1 3⁄4” mid length headers and a custom 2.5” H-pipe with Hi-Flo cats and resonators built into the H-pipe. We left the rest of the pipes leading from the H-pipe back to the mufflers alone being that they're 2.5” and stainless. At the very back of the car we went with Flo-Master Delta 50’s, or what are also known as 3-chambers, and a very fitting, good looking, rolled stainless tip.

The reason we installed resonators in the exhaust is that I've decided that 05 Mustangs are going to be much louder than we've been accustomed to because of the mufflers being located all the way in the back of the car without any tail pipes to help reduce or cancel some noise.

We've already listened to several 05’s that have other types of mufflers and exhaust systems and are starting to believe that a lot of these other set ups have for a lack of better words - a disgusting, poppy, frappy sound that's just plain too loud for most people.

The system we've custom built for our 2005 GT has a very unique roar with no popping at any rpm or load, it is louder then stock, but wont get attention when you're 2 miles away. Personal preference is going to come into play here and were not saying that our way is the only way, but with the mufflers being all the way at the back of the car, we feel that lots of people are going to make the mistake of putting mufflers on that we've become accustomed to on previous model year Mustangs that had tail pipes.

On to the performance part of the exhaust changes we've made. It really didn't surprise us that the exhaust changes we made to the 05, even with the blower, added 10-15 RWHP. Yep, that's it. Only about 10-15 at the rear wheels after a pretty extensive change in the entire exhaust system. The reason that this comes as no surprise is that it has to be excepted that the stock system is pretty darn good now that it's a full 2.5”, not 2 1⁄4” like previous model years. Even the exhaust manifolds have a header like shape cast into them unlike older 4.6L manifolds which were essentially a tube with 4 tubes leading into one log. The ‘05 manifolds basically have a 4 into 1 header design.

On the day we dynoed the car with the new full exhaust it must be noted that it was 18-20 degrees hotter the last time it was tested without the new exhaust, this major change in weather will adversely impact our results. But the rest of the tune was watched, checked and even tweaked a little just to try and squeeze a little more. And in the end with the given boost and over all combo, we've deiced that it was worth a total of 15 RWHP only at the very peak RPM’s. And subtle gains from 2500 rpm all the way up.

It must be noted though that the sound that this new and unique system produces is very different. It has a deep big block type sound at all rpms and loads.

The overall costs and gains of this complete system are something to be considered though.

You hit the nail on the head. Without the cats the sound is exactly as you described, but only at certain rpms. Brent from Brenspeed told me it was due to the new 3V motor. I'm going to get resonators on mine soon. I've heard they take care of the raspy sound.

That's pretty much, what both Brent and Dave, from Brenspeed told me as well..As a matter of fact ? when I ordered my Pypes Violators from Brent today ! I also asked him, if an aftermarket catted H pipe, would provide any additional power, over the factory cats ? And he pretty much confirmed, there would be very little to gained, and said the factory H-pipe, is considered to be, a factory high-flow catted pipe, as it is..Although, he also mentioned, that if I were planning to add a blower, and long tube headers ? he would then recommend, going with either an off road H/X pipe, or high-flow catted X.. But other than that ! he strongly recommends, that if I plan to remain N/A ? It would then be in my best interest, to stick with the factory mid pipe..Anyway, being that Brent does R&D testing on everything he sells ? I've decided to follow his advice, and continue using my stock mid pipe, with Pypes Violators.. Anyhow, If you happen to be reading this Brent ? just want to say, thanks for you're great customer service, and feedback support... Rocky :D

Thanks for writing this out red05bullitgt. You have saved me the time of researching it further myself. :D

sorry for the late reply, but thanks for the compliment. wish i had more time and money to make more write ups. :)
