315's with 10.5in rim. Would this help or hurt me?

With the mods I have(Mod's in Sig.), would a 315 tire on a 17x10.5 in wheel hurt or help me? Would the added weight put too much stress on my lightly modded Mustang? I plan on installing a Bullitt suspension. I have read that 10.5in wheels and 315 tires would rub against the cat back of lowered Mustangs. The Bullitt suspension isn't a big drop but is there a chance that rubbing will be an issue?

I have a fairly stock GT but I spin like crazy at launch, even with an auto. I plan on getting 315/10.5 in the rear. Wide tires should help more than hurt. The gain I get due to added traction should be more than what I'd lose due to added weight. More [+] than [-].

Thats good. I didn't want to end up being slower. Do 315's only come as a drag radial?

They stick like glue...will not hurt you...BUT I have noticed that with my lowered stang (1 1/4 inch) if I hit a bump they sometimes rub on the tailpipe...(look closely at pic below) but nothing to major. And the Goodyears tend to run a bit bigger than other 315s

That's cool. The Bullitt suspension only drops the car 3/4 of an inch. Looking at your pics I most likely won't have to worry now. Are you still running the stock 245/45/17 tire in the front?

The more tire you can put the ground is always better. I would definatley get the 315s. Alittle rub on the exhaust is not as important as all the great hook up you'll get.

anyway 315 tire will help as long as its a good rubber. if its a cheaper tire, the compound might not be real soft so you will still spin them off. but any decent brand with low tread wear rating will be fine

315's also handle well too! LOL not to mention the mean ass stance it gives

Would 315/45/17 be too much? I want to match the sidewall of the stock 245/45/17 front.

No, you want to stay with a 315/35/17, it will match almost perfectly. I have 285/40/17s ($139...cant beat that for a tire thats rated #2 on tirerack.com) and they are a little bit too skinny for the rim (even) but they still hook pretty well. Before the gears and plenum and chip, I couldnt really spin them from a roll....even from a stop would net a nice spin in 1st, but second would BOG. Now, they will light from a roll and fishtail in 2nd...heck even from a rolling 35-40MPH in 2nd gear I can make the car fishtail 8 out of 10 times, from a flat punch. Mine are a little taller then stock, so it gears me up a little more than normal.

there are a few that make 315 dr's. nitto and mickey tompson come to mind right away, but keep in mind nitto's run smaller than most.

I have 315s also and I'm lowered with the Prokit with no upper isolator. I don't get any rubbing at all. The only time I've heard people rubbing is when they have the Bassani cat back with the 3 or 3.5" (not sure) tailpipe.
I have Magnapacks and as you can see in the pic, there is room to spare.

I have room to spare when the car is sitting still...when I hit a bump..thats when the problem arises. I have a flowmaster american thunder catback

For most, 315's are for looks...face it people. But there is nothing wrong with that - they look great.
But you've also got to keep rolling resistance in mind. These steamrollers rob power, and if you have em for looks,...well, I hope you really like em.
Throwing bigger tires underneath is not the solution here. It's having the right tires, the right suspension, and, more than anything, having some launching skills.

its not only for looks but helps out in handling too. i myself like a complete package car, handling and quick in the straight line. but if your pushing serious power, street tires just aint gonna cut it. i know and seen cars with 275 series drag radials and can spin them pretty easily, so naturally 315's would be a nice choice. better choice yet is a full ET street 26x10.5

Definitely going with Nitto's. They have a good price of $177 compared to others like Goodyear which are $100 more. However, the treadwear rating kinda sucks. If rubbing is a problem would a small wheel spacer help?
