yes you can, the DSS blocks are also stock blocks, that will still split at the main webbing at the usual hp levels

DSS blocks just have a different name from stock.

Depending on how much boost you want to run, I'd go with the 331. The shorter stroke and shorter rods will work better with high boost.

If you're going under 10 PSI, I'd go 347.

Stock block, notch the skirts, 347 rotating assembly w/blower pistons, s trim sound great but at block splitting power.

331 and 347 have same length rods at 5.4'' with their own respective pistons. CHP has a shorter rod at 5.315" with 331 piston for their 347.

I plan on running 10lbs of boost, as far as I know, the current block I have now is in good shape!

The power level is what will kill the block.

A 331 has more piston material to it, which could be better for boosted applications.

In your case, I would pick one or the other. Stroker will give you less power for more money, or you can go blower for more power and less money. It's up to you, good luck!

I would do a h/c/i setup and deal with that for a bit and then slap a supercharger on it.

How do you figure more displacement would net you less power?

Im gonna talk to my local machine shop guy see what his opinion is on the better motor to use with the boost. What type of horsepower do you think i could get out of a stroker setup with boost, I am shootin for high 400's maybe 500hp! thanks for all the feedback guys I am kinda new to the 5.0 thing.

You could push 600bhp fairly easily with a stroker and a good h/c/i setup with 10psi of boost. Look into an aftermarket block and built internals.

Good Luck!

500 rwhp should not be a problem with a 331 and 10lbs. At 14-15lbs there are many people making over 600rwhp with fairly simple combinations. Your goal of 400 to 500 hp should be no problem for rwhp or at the flywheel being as I am not sure which you are meaning.

I'm not an engine builder I should've specified, but I was debating this same thing, and was talking through ideas with Rick, and he explained it really well, I just gave the dumb shortened version.

My last words on it, if you're staying N/A go 347, more cubes, more potential, and you can say I have a 347.

I love my 347, but I wish it was a 342. (I don't like having thinner cylinder walls)
