Hey guys.
I have a 331 in my 90 LX. twisted wedge head. trick flow upper and lower intake. 30LB injectors matching MAF. Car was just not running right after installation. Seemed as if it was getting too much fuel. People have told me its because i need to have a chip burnt for the car. Is this what i need to do or is there something else wrong?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

i would double check all the grounds, there is an orange one on a harness that runs along the passenger side of the engine, if you leave that off the tps voltage will be way out

have you tried to pull any codes out of the computer?

I will check for that ground. No i have not tried to pull any codes. Just kind of figured it needed to be tuned for the setup i had.

Hey Dan, good to see you on here!

I still think you are fine without a chip burnt, Gotta start with the codes, although it may or maynot have a check engine light on there still may be codes present.

This thread covers about everything needed to make the car run and function properly...might give you some ideas.

He is running a X303 cam, I believe we ended up with around 14* of base timing.

Could be a MAF sensor fault but that would show up in the codes. Ummmm a chip would def help in performance but a 331 is still sucking in the air on its own and not being forced which I would say the computer witha stock tune could handle the job.

That was our deductive reasoning. The MAF is brand new, clean and matched for the injectors so I cannot see that being the problem, unless there is a voltage issue.

Other thoughts have been an injector sticking open, we are going to pull the plugs this weekend and see if there are any things that stick out.

Yea, gonna try to see if its throwing any codes at all and go from there. Im hoping its something simple. Dont wanna have to spend more money on tuning it if i can fix it myself. Yea im running an x 303 cam in it with 14 degrees base timing. Turning my fuel pressure down as low as it could go but still seemed way to much. When i would put vaccuum line back on it didnt seem to change it much though so i was also thinking of a possible vaccuum leak somewhere too???

i agree with everyone else that you should check codes and the other basics first, but I disagree that you don't need a chip. With a dyno tune your able to see your power curve and more easily see where your issues are and best adjust the timing and A/F mixture to maximize your output throughout the whole curve. My car ran like a champ but we were able to squeeze out another 26hp and 19tq just by adjusting A/F and timing, and you can feel the difference in every gear thru the entire power curve. I am very glad I got my car tuned...just my $.02.

I forgot about that, I know whenever I check my FP as soon as you put the vaccume line back on the pressure changes...we should replace the line between the intake and FP regulator.
