i want to build a 331 within the next 3 months but was wondering if i can still use my afr 165? i plan on using all the parts in my sig, but the cam, i would like to go custom. what should i do? get 185 or keep my 165. i would like to make 350-375 rwhp with the new motor. i'm currently making 300 to the wheels.
Thanks

Too small IMO, upgrade to 185's or even a victor jr (What I run on my 331)

Upgrade those injectors and fuel pump and get a custom cam.

The 185's and that intake should work well together...if you really want power go with the vic jr's with the TFS R or RPM2

You could still make a ton of power with the 165's but the 185's would be better.

185s would be ideal but 165s will work. You shouldn't have too much trouble hitting 350 with a tune. Maybe some 30lbs injectors would help you some.

Since you already have the heads, and they aren't cheap, you may want to think about just putting a couple hundred into them. Done correctly A valve job, bowl cleanup and maybe a mild hand or CNC port could probably make them better than 185's, and you wouldn't have to go through the trouble of selling them and getting another set.

those heads are fine for a 331. Yes you could make more power with the 185s, you could make even more with 205s... its all relative...

Again i would just keep the heads, possibly invest in some 2.02 stainless valves and light porting but nothing to break the bank. If it were up to me i would just bolt them down and call it a day. 350 RWHP is attainable with a combo like that and a good cam. Remember those AFR heads dont f-ck around.

so if i just bolt the heads down box stock, what else would you change about my combo besides the cam.

I thought the 165's and the 185's are the same head. The 185's just have more porting to the intake runners. I know they have the same size valves and exhaust runners.

The valve springs, the manifold, the tb (depending what size you have now) to 75mm and take a grinder and open up the restrictive bbk collector. The holley manifold will work well IMO. I would mill the heads too.

Go 347 instead of a 331. I dunno why you'd give up 16 free cubic inches? Seeing that you're on LI, we can meet up one night and run em :Track:

They'll flow more to a 331 than stock heads do to a 302.

nope. 185's have a 2.02 intake valve while 165's have a 1.90

Well, for cost effectiveness, if you are going to change the valves, it would be better to sell the heads, and get the 185 set. Good Valves are not cheap, couple that with a valve job, bowl cleanup and mild porting and cost is too high.
