After poping the #1 piston on my 2v mod motor ( built by Livernois, cheated by Livernois as well) I am sort of stuck with a delema.
Car in mention is my 2001 Mustang GT ( 4R70w trans)

-2v features, Cobra crank, manley h beams, ARP through out. Previously built by Livernois with Mahle 10cc pistons ( was lied to when sold, claimed 16cc dish) Little to say, compression was high without being aware, and pump gas did not cut it on 10psi of boost. ( #1 ring land blew out)

-342 features 4340 crank, 4340 H beams, ARP, Probe pistons, Speed pro rings, Clevette bearings, and a B50 race prepped block w/ main support & studs. ( block needs cleaned, honed, and new bearings/rings to freshen up)

Rebuild the 2v or freshen up my 342 and drop it in.
Both engines have all the goodies, the 342, obviously having the advantage here.
I have been seriously considering dropping this pushrod engine in my 01 GT.

One of my main concerns right now is the spark control/ECU.. I have considered Megasquirt as a serious option, but know very little about it right now, and feel I do not have the time to invest into really learning it. I do not want to get involved with hacking wiring harness' too much, but am willing to do a little cut/soldering.

What to do, what to do...

I failed to mention.. I have a 4r70w trans ready to go with the 342 ( bellhousing bolt pattern for 5.0). Fabrication of a/c, p/s brackets are of little concern, as I can do that, custom turbo kit as well, and fuel injection will depend on what ECU setup I go with.

Wouldnt it be nifty to retain coil on plug ignition (EDIS) for the pushrod. This may be possible, but I have not looked into it.

holy hell...oink is alive...

I think PITA factor (and that you have a PR based mustang already...you still have it right?), along with cost why not just get some pistons and have the shortblock rebuilt.

BTW-how did the 01 come out? last time I saw pics it had a painted bay and the turbo had just punished the stock engine. In other words you cant just leave for a year or two and not post pics of your toys/work...it is always SOOO nice and top notch.

Ehhh after all the hard work I dont think it would be worth putting a pushrod in a mod car. Build a sweet teksid motor for the 01 and crank up the boost!

Well im not sure how the whole swap would go but I can offer some insight on the DIS system. The Explorers with the same 5.0 as the mustangs ran coils vs the distirbutor, your best bet there would be to get an explorer harness and retro fit all that stuff in with it. Its been done before but Im not sure of the specifics.

As for the tuning aspect get a 95 eec and use tweecer, Just do your homework on the tweecer, its fairly easy to learn how to get around that program, just takes some paitents and some time and alot fo reading.

As far as the swap goes im not sure on the detials or how much that enginebay/suspension changed in the latter years but you would need a new k-member from the sn-95's and probly a custom driveshaft of somesort.

The easiest option would be to rebuild you 2v motor, less hassle and less money and less headaches, but it would be a cool project to try and tackle the 342 if you up for it and got a little extra cash and time.

Hey thanks for the heads up on the explorer setup... I had no idea

A few reason why i prefer the pushrod over a modular is the fact that parts for the pushrod motors are much more readily avalible, cheaper, and easier to work on/with. Dont get me wrong, modulars have their place, but I am NOT a fan... After owning and building a few already. STOCK ported heads, $1400+... get F'ing real here!

My only option for the 2v shortblock is Al ( Boss330) down in Vero beach.. While he is only 2 hours from me, he is regarded as one of the top mod motor builders, and is backed up. He basically will have me on a waiting list, which I can not afford to do. This is my daily driver after all... lol

At this point, I will need a new set of CP pistons/rings ($750), bearings, hone, cleaning ($250), then figure in stock head gaskets ($190), and a set of Manley Nextek springs ($200) to prevent valve float under boost.

$1400 give or take.. to repair a mistake Livernois made!

Sucks to hear no doubt but I still say 1400$ and ALOT more plug and play v. what you want to do with the pushrod swap has the mod ahead.

If you need it as a daily...it might be best to just get a good running used 4.6 for now and take off the turbo...then sell the still good running 4.6 when you get around to rebuilding the liverno deal. Not to be an arse but a turbo 4.6 mod motor would not be on any kind of list to try and DD and stay reliable.

Is there anyway you could drive the red pushrod beast (if you still have it even) while the 01 is down?

or

is it still in alot of pieces?

wow.....03' cobra motor into your 94-95 car
now pushrod into the newer car!

If it were me, i would just throw some new pistons into the 4.6.

However i cant see a swap being very hard at all. Get the motor mounts, etc and then run a complete 94-95 computer aode and harness, i would imagine you could use a pms, etc to tune the tranny also....this route would be costly, imo

See, I go and post on here and am now having second thoughts.. At least if I go ahead and freshen up the pushrod engine, it will be good to go for my 94 ( which is still in sad shape). I still have plans to paint that car a nice candy, and do a nice clean interior in, turbocharged of course, and a nice cloth top.

I think my plan is going to be, to freshen up the 94's 342, and build the 281 at the same time... as simple as it sounds to drop in a stock replacment for right now, I would be digging myself deeper here ( more work, more money, more time down, ect). I was hoping to make this super stang fest event next week in Daytona..

Ill try to snap some pictures of what I've been working on, with the 01, as it's down.

Call Sam at Coastal Chasis dyno....if you cant find them on the internet let me know I will get his number. He builds very potent modular motors for a bunch of my turbo 03 cobra friends. He may be able to do something for you although Al Papito (sp?) is a badass.

Welcome back Oink!!!! I see you are having fun with new engines like I have been. Luckily mine didn't break internally. Just defective head gaskets. Either way, resulted in pulling the engine again to find out that's ALL it was for sure.

To me you sound a bit like you are ruling out one choice based on the fact you are fixing someone elses mistake. Not a good way to decide in my opinion. You have the facts posted. I would fix what you have, it was a better decision the first round was it not? That's why you chose it? An error on some shop's part does not make your first decision bad. While your swap would be kewl as heck.... I just see it being more down time and more "research" you say you don't have time for.

I know, I answered my own question... but I am looking for someone that may have done this, so I can get a visual idea, a written idea, of what I would be getting into.

That, and In my head at least, it would be one cool car... something very unique, and with the F cam and magnaflow mufflers, the car would sound simply wicked!

The only thing I pulled off, was the plan. Stangnet talked me out of it!

I ended up rebuilding the 2v modular.. little more power and reliability this time, as I'm doing it myself.
