what actually hits the hood with the 351? j
ust the front of the intake?
or is it not even close... does the TB run into trouble as well? is what I am really wondering.

Is the performer RPM higher or lower than the performer.

How many inches higher does the top of the intake sit on a 351 as apposed to the 302?

I believe I read on this forum (or maybe corral) that with regular motor mounts and a 3 inch cowl hood, a 351 with a trick flow R intake, the front of the intake just barely touched the hood, and that was the only problem.

Im gonna do the 351 swap in the near future, "seems" like a pretty straightforward swap.

I dont want a cowl hood and I will used dropped mounts.

I am looking intpo what hits...the front edge and the TB of the front edge and the driver's side edge of the intake or whatever.

you can run a 96-98 cobra or saleen heat extractor and clear. those dont really have a raised cowl

so the 96 cobra has no problem?

I was thinking maybe the 351 edlebrock truck lower with the victor 5.0 upper to clear. or will those not line up.

Maybe you could get more clearance with an EFI spyder intake? With enough cubes, who needs long runners for low end torque

yeah... the victor 5.0 is pretty short.

that is why I was trying to figgure out what actually hits the hood. My roomates GF has the cobra hood and I was going to get some scrap wood and do some measureing

I figure if just the front of the intake hits, that the victor will have enough room under the 96 cobra.

There is something about all motor that I just love. I love boost, but just the respect of trapping 120+ on motor in a street car from the fbody crowd, not to mention the reliabilty, tuning easiness, cooling, and no head gasket problems....

something just enough to run with the baddest heads cam ls1s and be a good daily.

plus no one will ever know whats coming.

Snoozer, I just checked the edelbrock website and the 5.0 victor has a different base to the regular 5.0 lower. However, you can use the truck lower and a typhoon or rpm upper. Those will both match up with the truck lower. Its what I plan on doing if I go with a 351.

The clearence issues all correspond with the front of the intake. Everything else will fit. But be prepared to pay a good amount for custom headers. Also, You might want to think about a fox TB swap to help clear valve covers. Or use a spacer between the upper and tb elbow. It will kick out the TB just anought to clear if more clearence is needed.

Man we ned more people to fit these motors under a stock hood becaus I ve been waiting for someone to do it before I dive in. Owell, someone has to do it first. We should be asking Vib how he's doin on his 408.

i know it has a different base, ity has a non emissions base with a no pcv

BUT ARE THE PORT POSITIONS THE SAME THAT i CAN MOUNT THE VICTOR UPPER ON TOP OF THE 351 LOWER AND MAYBE HAVE TO PORT MATCH THE LOWER TO THE TOP TO NOT DISTURB FLOW

SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS, THE BUTTON IS STUCK.

here is a comparison of the victor intake port shape versus the performer.

now the base to a performer could be opened up to match this, could it not? would probably make some more velocity as it transitioned to the smaller port of the performer lower just as it goes into the motor.

This swap is a loong way off, but I like to plan things out and I have plenty of time to figure out all the quarks.

Has anyone opened up a 94=95 elbow to aproximately 75 mm before?

haha

yeah I didnt even have one of those when I bought the car.

this is a GTS with a light aas hell race weight. It will only get lighter with the tubular K, coilovers, some 1 piece seats and aluminum heads which I guess will offset the heavier weight of the 351.

I would think about going to a spyder intake. You could always get any carb intake and convert it to a EFI intake. This would be your best bet to clearing the stock hood.

this is a daily driver. and I like my clutch.

this will be under a 96 cobra hood which has a raise where the intake hits on the 95 gt

I believe it can be done even with a stock GT hood, but this would include custom headers, drop mounts, custom intake, and probably more. Let us know what you are going to do.

I would just swap to a fox style TB. If you stroke the 351 you may need more than a 75mm anyway, which would force you to swap to a fox style.

werd

does anyone have any thoughts about port matching the 351 truck lower to the victor, or should I start a new thread? Or email edelbrock or AFM

I think it can be done but then you have to port the ports, intake to heads, depending on what heads you use.
