I was wondering what the popular 351 strokers were. Ive heard of 393 and 408. I was also wondering what kinda numbers they put out n/a with less than 5k in them (5k in machining and building that is). Are there any stroker kits to make it like a 360 or somethin, just a little punched out. Like making a 302 a 306. Any other comments about stroking would be appriciated.

Thanks
Mike

Just a basic rebuild would get you close to a 360 by overboring the cylinders. A stroker with good aluminum heads like AFR will easily make 400 -500 h.p. If you use stock heads and a weak intake, the numbers go WAY down.

Yeah, I think the question is "why?" If it costs you a chunk of change to get 306 cubes, why not throw in a little more dough for 408 cubes?

Built a 393 with Edelbrock heads and a Coast kit for less than 4k, should be about 450hp at the flywheel.

Can you say "427"

I have a 351W in my 67 fastback. It's bored 60 over and has a 4 1/8" stroke; making 427 c.u.

I only have about 300 miles on it. No dyno numbers, yet.

how do you like that 427 so far? that's my next project but I dunno about boring it 60 over since I'm adding a blower to it.

A 351w is one of the best stroker candidates for someone on a budget. You can turn your 351W into a 393 cube engine by using your stock rods, 302 pistons and a 3.85" stroker crank ($400-$500). Just make sure to use good heads, bigger carb, bigger cam, etc.

Well, only 300 miles so far. But, I really like it. Nice deep throaty sound. And it pulls REALLY hard. Conservatively, I should easily have 400rwhp and torque. And I don't have a wicked top end (just a dual plane intake and 750 CFM carb).

My sig line has a link to my 67. More info is posted there. I'll dyno it sometime next summer.

70 mach with stock c-4 and cheap ger converter. Stock ford 9" with 4.11's. All stock exterior and interior. 408 windsor with new vic jr heads that I ported a bit myself. Custom hyd roller cam and lifters. Old 1 5/8 headers with my old perf rpm intake and proformed 750. Have around 4500 in the motor right now. That's with dyno time and everything. Could have done it for less without the custom cam - $330 and hyd roller lifters - $425. ( ) Dynoed at 519 fwhp and 532 ft/lbs torque. Could have made more with better intake, headers and carb. But it's pretty fun to drive and just ran an 11.506@117 last weekend still spinning with et streets. Check the "my garage out for pics) I don't think there is no reason to go less than a 393. The stroker kits are getting pretty cheap. .02

hey 03SHKR how close are you your stock hood with that rpm intake? I would like to put a 351 in my 67 but I'm worried about hood clearance...

409 cubes, 510 hp, 150k+ miles (built in '94). It went to the 30th Anne show AND the 40th . . . same motor . . . same tranny . . . same rear.

Different water pump. That's it.

GREAT motor.

So the stock block will hold at 393/409 w/no problems?

Yep, fwhp means flywheel horsepower not at the wheels. My pics worked when I first put them in there? Now all I get is them darned red x's when I try. Anybody know why??

Before we shut the hood normally, I placed playdoh (sp?) on the air cleaner in 5 spots (front, rear, left, right, and on the nut) to check the hood clearance. I think the clearance was 3/4 to 1 inch at all spots.

No. But, the K&N air filter isn't very tall.
