IM thinking about buying a set of rebuilt stock 351c 2bbl heads, I was wondering if having them milled or using stainless valves would make much difference in power? The cars gonna be mainly a street car, whats the most power I can get out of a set of 72' 351c 2bbl heads? Im adding flat top pistons so I should be at 9.1 to 1 compression before the milling.

Thanks
Jim

Did you get a cam yet? One suggestion perhaps for the future, plan out what you want then stick to it. To me it sounds like you're hitting and missing with this engine (i.e. adding or swapping out one thing, then a couple weeks later another). This way you have a congruent engine setup with less problems than a pieced together thing.

more onto the subject at hand, if you have not bought a cam yet, buy a set of aussie 2v heads (a guy on VMF has some up for grabs right now) or regular 351 4v. Get them totally rebuilt,w/hardened seats etc.

If you are into performance then the 4v quench heads are the way to go. All you need is an intake, good cam, gear and you have a fast car. 2v heads are good too, but they need some port work to hit their potential.

I would suggest getting mildly domed pistons to increase the c/r to around 10.5/11 to 1 in order to get the best out of them in comparison to running a set of 4v cc heads. You have a few aftermarket intake options but most will need to be sourced used from swap meets aside from the 2v edelbrock performer intake.

after this, just get some decent valve work done and put in higher rate springs for whatever cam you will be running and you will notice very nice gains.

Most of the problem with 2v heads is that people never get them worked over right, nor properly compliment them so they say they are dogs.

Thanks for the reply's. Im thinking now of going to 4v heads, I hear the torque isn't as good for street use but even the stock specs on the heads still produce more torque then the 2v heads? The again alot of people are telling me although I'll get the HP I want out of the heads it will be high up in the RPM's and wont do much good for me on the street. Will a stock 4v beat a stock 2v off the line and for the first 100 yards or so? Aussie heads are my other option but they seem to sell for over 300 dollars and thats for a bare set not including valve jobs and springs, i'd probally run way over the money I have to spend.

Thanks,
Jim
