351C 2V should I?

more cleveland

the bellhousing bolts were 4 3/4". I was using a wooden ruler, so its not to horribbly accurate. and the lifter valley was 9" across. from deck to deck

I would post more, but my picture limit has been reached.

anyways, you can tell the difference between a cleveland and windsor by the timing cover. a cleveland is recessed, and windsors is bolt on.

the picture of the 302's front is with the timing cover removed, the 351w will look the same. just a little bigger.

the clevelands thermostat housing bolts onto the block, unlike the windsors which bolts onto the intake.

thats all I can think of right now.

Thanks hungry! I feel prepared now. By the way, did you get your tooth fixed? I hope you're feeling better.

I found a little more info.. 351W 9.48" deck height. 302 8.2" deck. Out of the car, I should be able to tell them apart as well.

By the way, Mach1one thanks for the tranny advice. I neglected to acknowledge it before. Tremec 3650, huh? Sounds $$$. Did that come in any vehicles? Well, I'd rather spend more and get something durable. I'm sure at some point whatever setup I get, I'm going to want to step it down some... :D The loud pedal can be hard to resist.

302's and 351w's are usually pretty good about having what motor they are cast into the lifter valley. neither of my clevelands have that. you could get the casting numbers and post them here. they should be above the starter on the passenger side of the block.

and I still have half a damn tooth. :D I couldnt get into the dentist until the 28'th. My tongue is raw from running it over it. I cant make myself stop

Wow, dude! Sorry but your dentist sucks! You should be able to get in right away with a problem like that, even on the weekend. Seriously.

I found some casting numbers for 351C from other sources on the internet and here in other threads. I have them at home, I'll post them later for you guys to review. Hopefully they're accurate.

Ok 351C casting numbers per various sources on the internet. I don't know whether they are all correct or where on the block they would be located. I also can't tell you if it is a complete list. :nonono: So... I hope someone here can help by verifying this. It seems to me that there should be a D1.. on this list, but... Please oh please, don't use this as your sole means of verification unless someone else posts below that this is correct.

D3ZE-A - 4 bolt mains
DOAE-C - 4 bolt mains
DOAE-D - 2 bolt mains
D2AE-CA - umm, don't know but this was said to be a 351C 4V

edit: I couldn't stand it and went and bought a couple 351C books on Amazon. I'll have more/better info in a week or two. :D

351C

THE absolutly most easiest and quickest way to tell a Cleveland from any other engine is the fuel pump mounting.. C is a vertical bolt and stud, where all others are horizontal. thats just an easy way to tell.. like at a junk yard or something. I'm pretty young and I'm happy that the first engine im working on is the 351C, it's cool. Oh another thing i recomend for anyone rebuilding heads is get hardend seats... not the "hardend" seats that ford puts in its newer engines, i mean hardend seat that a twice as dence. last longer and tuff, and will make it so you can put any modifications on your engine and have no worries about your heads or valves cracking, ever.

Unfortunately the fuel pump mounting pattern is also true for the 351M and 400.
