I have an 82gt that came with a busted 351w. I am trying to decide if I should stick with a 351w or through in a 460. What are the opinions as I can find both stock pretty cheap around here currently.

351w would be my choice. Biggest reason is weight, you can get big hp/torque numbers without the added lbs,

Depends on what the car is used for. But even if its a drag car, I'd still stick with a 351w for weight savings and ease of swapping in (being you say the car already has one).

I've said it several times here. A 460 ( a good 460, like an old police interceptor engine) will kill a 351, only needing the mildest stuff to make a 11.0 drag car.

The car will require a transmission that is not readily available though, ( like a c4 with a removable bell to fit a 385series engine) otherwise you'll be relegated to a heavy assed c6 to get the job done.

In 95-97, I campaigned that engine in a street/strip car that I drove through the gate on M*T sportsman pros, and on the very first pass the car went 7.15 purely on the motor.

That car was an 80 notch, and the engine fit better than the stupid junk it came out of.
Was it heavy? Yep. Was it a pig in regard to stopping and handling? Yep.

But it was basically stock, with only a Cam intake, and headers. faster than any 351 in the same Configuration will ever be.

If you have the cabbage, an aluminum head 460 would be the bees kneez. With an aftermarket bellhousing you can run a TKO or T56 trans behind it.

That 460 I had in the 85 (for a month or so) was amazing. Would have been really good had I had it machined properly.

Ain't got money for big build of 460.

Decided on 351w since had it already. Will start a new thread as I am on a budget and have questions and concerns with what i have to work with.

Thanks for the replies

You can keep this same thread going for your 'build' . You already have a following and they will get notifications when you post stuff, just change up the title to keep it exciting like, 'stuffed in the engine, now where did I put that driveshaft?'
and pics, we like pics, but no cat pics, unless there are high flow fans or random beer with strange names involved.

Ok herr is where I am at. Heads were wp windsor jrs which I sold. It had vic jr intake and msd distributor(change gear) with xe284h cam(get different) and a holley carb (can not find numbers). I picked up a 351 out of a f250 that I am currently starting to tear down to the short block and wodering how swapping these parts on stock heads would do.

Plan is to get running so I can drive the car cause pointless to have a car sit. I am on a budget hence the title. I plan on saving up and going 408 with aluminum heads but that will take time. I have a spare block sitting for that.

Thoughts and coments are appreciated. I have not got to mess with engines in cars for awhile and never messed with ford engine. I added pics of broken block and I will get casting numbers off of other block tonight. I can not figure out what shocks on front. There are strange adjustables on rear cant tell what control arms on rear and has summit lowering springs. Rear is 8.8 was told trac lok with 4.10 gears.

The car is rough, but that is absolutely a vehicle worth putting a little blood sweat and tears into. '82 GTs are few and far between these days, and IMO that styling is maybe the best of the 4-eyes.

Interior is shot but fairly straight small amount of rust seen so far in wheel wells where they bent lip in to clearance for tires.

You say I can edit the title. How do I do that?

Wow! That sucks! Try to find an f4te block casting 351w so you can run roller cams made for the mustang. The B cam.
