351w Turbo gasket questions

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 351w with a 70mm turbo. Not real sure which direction to go as far as a gasket set. The car will have 500-700hp (depending on boost). There seem to be about a million options for gasket sets. Does anyone have any good recommendation? I dont want the cheapest crap possible but then again I dont want to spend a ton of money on something that doesnt need it.

Any help would be awesome.

I think that the reason you got no response to this so far is that maybe folks were thinking something along the lines of, "Is this guy for real???"

Let me explain... You're talking about building a 351 and setting it up for a turbo. You didn't ask things like:

What internals should I use?
What compression?
What Cam?
What exhaust and down pipe?
Should I use a BOV, Bypass?
What will I need to support fuel for this combo?

Instead you asked... What gasket kit? My friend... the set of gaskets that you choose is the LEAST of your concerns. Buy a quality set and press with pride. If money is a concern when purchasing a set of gaskets, you should probably reconsider the turbo build because you may not have the funds necessary for the kit and supporting mods.

Maybe he has all those parts and is looking for opinions on what is good for gaskets.

Id say felpro MLS head gaskets, and whatever Felpro intake gaskets match your heads. Copper silicone on the headers

Thank you. I do have all the other parts and the shortblock is already assembled and ready to go. I was just trying to not type out a novel with all of the details.

I was just giving a brief description of what I had and was wondering what others thoughts were on a decent gasket set.

For head gaskets? COMETIC COMETIC COMETIC COMETIC COMETIC! But seriously I never run anything but Cometic, which is multi layer steel gasket (MLS) so Im assuming the felpro MLS is just as good!

They are very similar but ive used both. I dont have anything bad to say about the cometic but i thought the Fel-pro was nicer, and i think cheaper too. One thing with the fel pro is you have to silicone the ends of the gasket where it meets the lifter valley or it will leak oil. I forgot to do this on mine and had to take the lower intake off to seal it up. Not a huge deal but it was a PIA at the time. I was just glad i didnt have to pull a head.

It was leaking oil pretty bad, first i noticed the front rivet that holds the gasket had oil on it and it was dripping right onto the oil filter. Then i noticed quite a bit of oil coming from out of the bottom bellhousing. I thought maybe the layers of the gasket were leaking but when i called my engine builder he knew what it was right away.

The whole back of the motor had oil on it and it was seeping out of every hole of the bellhousing it could. I reached to the back of the passenger side cylinder head and that was full of oil too.

Its a mistake i would only make once with those gaskets lol.

I forgot this in the other post but right stuff permatex is the only silicone i will use anymore. After having problems with the black sealant, i switched to right stuff and that stuff is pretty much the ****.

Does anyone know if Fel Pro or any of the gasket companies make rebuild kits that dont include the head gasket and or intake gasket? I will be buying those separately and I feel like its just a waste to have a set of head gaskets and intake gaskets that I dont want. I've been searching and I cant really find anything. I'm sure this will be viewed as another stupid question, but thats what internet forums are for

I wouldnt waste time on trying to get a kit for what you are doing. What heads and intake are you using? That will determine the intake gasket. From there i would get the FMS oil pan and valve cover gaskets. Both of those FMS gaskets are rubber with a piece of steel in them and work very well. The valve cover gaskets can be reused multiple times. I also use a thin coat of Right Stuff silicone on each side of the oil pan gasket and on the rear main seal. I use felpro for the rear main, intake and timing set/water pump.

Fox lake stage 3 ported track heats. 190cc intake port. TFS-R intake.

I would call fox lake and ask them what they are ported to, if i had to guess though, i wold say its going to be either a 1262 or a 1262R flepro.

Have you used the R intake manifold yet? A lot of them need to be milled to get them to sit right.
