I am in the very early stages of planning and building up a 393 stroker.
Anyone one here gone throught this process that could provide a little feedback on any dos and donts you may have come across? Anyone done this one a fuel injected 351?

I have a 351w complete engine now, and im looking at picking up a 2000 explorer engine to rob the heads and intakes - i understand that these would be the gt40p heads?

Anyways, looking forward to some advice.
Thanks,

Steve

the heads will fit but be way small for a 393, the intake will not fit as its for a 5.0.

a 393 uses a 3.85 stroke crank, 302 pistons and stock length 351w rods, you want at least a 2.02 intake head, the smallest head I would use is an edelbrock performer rpm or world products windsor sr.

The Edelbrock Performer RPM head can be found at some good prices and has good quality.

you can pick up a stroker crank for about $200 from competition products. use a set of stock 351w rods and stock replacement 302 pistons, flattops are best. for heads you can pick up a pair of windsor sr heads bare, and get the valves from competition products, as well as the valve springs retainers and keepers and end up with a complete set of heads for less than you would for a complete set of heads. as for a cam, figuring that you want to run on the street, and since you are adding cubes, you can run a cam like the 282xe cam from comp cams. you want a set of headers with a 1 5/8" primary tube and a 3" collector. for an intake i would use a weiand stealth topped with a 750 carb, kind of small i know but for the street you dont need more than that. this combo should make about 400-425hp, and work real well in the 1500-5500 rpm range. the torque curve will be fat and flat which is what you want from a street engine, and it will have a monster amount of torque.
