So, Im get on the on ramp to the highway, highway light turns green...

1st gear, 2nd gear, I go into 3rd gear and all the sudden its knocking really bad. The engine sounds fine & gauges look good. I go to 4th less knocking than 3rd but you can still slightly hear it. Same with all other gears (1,2,4, & 5). I check under the hood for any signs of trouble just to be certain. I switch cars as I'm already late for work. I've haven't had a chance to really look at it yet.

Any advise on what I should look for first?

its not that bad, jsut rebuild it. you can get master kits everywhere online and if you need core parts there should be a place in your area that sells them just do a little research. i spent 250 bucks and about 5 hours rebuilding my t5 for my 68 mustang. now that ive done it once im pretty confident i can do it in a couple hours. its really alot easier than it seems.

hey turkey, how did you know for sure it was the trans? Must be something in the OR air! Mine just started having similiar issue tonight. Drove it today from Hillsboro down to Woodburn for shopping since weather was pretty sweet and all was fine. I had my wife go put gas while picking up a takeout order and after she put gas she said she heard a knocking sound (felt like under her feet) in 4th gear then she said it was pretty loud when she pushed in the clutch and coasted. I took a look after she got home (pretty dark out right now) and everything seems fine, nothing outta place. I started her up and it idled fine, so I took it for a spin around the block and once I got into 2nd i could feel a little knock, definitely feels stronger when the clutch is in and car is coasting. There is no sound or knocking at idle even reving it up to about 2200rpm. Is these similiar to your experience? Think it's my tranny? Car has about 150K on it and I have no idea if anything has ever been rebuilt.:bang:

Odd.

I got mine going onto 26 from 185th. Something about that straight a way that makes me want to go fast.

When it starts knocking you can tell it's the transmission. When the clutch is engaged the knocking will stop. I can hear knocking in every gear, but it's the loudest in 3rd gear. I can even feel the vibration of the knocking.

yeah I wasnt doing 100 lol

I was racing my friends 04 Si Again... lol had him by like 10 cars then blew 3rd on the upshift. At first I thought it just popped out of gear, then it started making this horrible death noise lol... So its coming out next week.

Crap and I just had a new clutch/flywheel put in less than 500 miles ago... :bang:

I'm pretty sure my t5 is on its way out too , my shifter handle looks like its going to vibrate out of the car at anything above 65 , and i cant get it back into gear when i stop. Do you guys have an estimate of how much it would cost for me to have someone rebuild it if i bring them the trans and parts? Is there a better route to go? I'm trying to stay cheap.
