I just got the 4.10s.

All I got was the gears, we'll see if I want to buy the install kits later.

Any websites with install instructions?

Since people here are telling me "GL with the install...", I may just get them done.

My father knows his stuff and he says that we can do it, he's done it before...

Lots to debate

Now I know I need a speedo recalibration, and I heard I can do with with a speedo drive gear (?) or a speedcal...

What would you guys recommend I do?

look under ur car and there should be a cylindrical tube going into the transmission held on by 2 screws, unbolt that and pull it out and you will find a plastic toothed gear held on by a c-clip. Order a 4.10 calibrated plastic gear from summit,(15$) and replace the old gear and re-insert it back in the tranny and that should take care of the speedo recalibration.

well red, that's all good in theory. but unfortunately it doesn't fix it AT ALL. it makes it a little better, but far from close i did that with my old car & it was still off 5-20 mph. i should have just got a chip, or speedo recal. it might just have been my experience, but i don't think so. i think ole mrvax has had his fair share of trouble with those plastic gears

on a side note, i was told that our cars (actually those with the 3650 tranny) didn't have those gears in the tranny at all. can anyone positively, confirm or deny this

Can anyone expand upon this?

This whole 4.10 thing seems like it's turning into a nightmare..

Milenko, i just installed my first set of gears in my 2002 today. I studied the superstallions website and corral. Both are linked off of "jim's mustang mods" (see link below). It took me aproximately 5 hrs. I did the install at the local auto hobby shop on the air force base that I live on. If you know someone who is in the military and can let you use their onbase hobby shop, then doing the gears yourself is a viable option beacuse the hobby shops have 90% of the tools you need. I had access to a 60 ton hydraulic press, torque wrenches, a lift, etc. If you can't do this, I would suggest letting a mechanic do it. The average price I found was around 175-200 dollars. Some were as high as 400 though. Gene Evans Racing and Stangstore.com have the cheapest prices on gears.Talk to Martin at stangstore and he will help you out. I haven't drove the car yet though, I have a few more things to finish up with it. I enjoy working on my car, and I am a average "D.I.Y."mechanic and I felt it was worth the five hours to do it myself. The only hard part was getting the crush collar to start "crushing". Took a four foot cheater bar to get it to start! Other than that, follow the superstallion website instructions and you can't go wrong. If you are driving a 96 then all you will need is a speedo gear to recal your speedometer.

Good luck

( Jim's mustang mods. Look under "drivetrain for all the articles on gear installs.)

globemaster17, I just saw your post today. Thanks for the info..

I want to get them professionally done, but my father is 100% on doing it ourselves. He knows his stuff..I just don't want to run into problems..
