I have been thinkin about gettin a 4.2 and puttin in my car. At first i wanted to get a 347 stroker but i think that that would be too much work from what everybody always says on here. What kind of horsepower and torque does a 4.2 get? is it basically a drop in swap or is it about as hard as gettin a v8? where can i get one at? thanx for the help guys.

I was just on ford's website and it said that the 4.2s in the new f-150s have 200 horsepower and 260 ft.lbs. of torque. So now the question is do the older 4.2s have mroe horse or is it all about the torque out of the 4.2?

trock,

does your mustang have a 3.8L already in it? If so, that would be a possible candidate for a 4.2L, just order the stroker kit.

Your hp/trq ratios are based on the parts you pick to go into the engine. Usually truck motors are designed with more torque in mind for pulling/towing.

RPM 4.2L Stroker

300HP/Tq. is possible with the right combination of work and bolt-ons - NA.

The 4.2 is a big turd in Ford's 1/2 ton trucks. Why would you want to go through a swap that won't get you much more than you have now? Just curious.

If I were you and stayed with a sixer, I'd look more toward forced induction as an option.

The 4.2 Ford block is a sixer, isn't it?

Even a 3.8L stroked out to 4.2 or 3, or with a 4.2L block as a base, with the right work AND forced induction, you're looking at some really nice numbers. Of course using forged internals will be a must.

It depends on what engine you get and where...

www.rpm-mustangs.com

www.moranav6racing.com

www.supersixmotorsports.com

...All of them have great choices and do very exceptional work! + you more or less get to build the engine you want on there web-site (pistons, rods, compression ratio, heads, cam, boring, porting, etc.)
Have fun and let us know if you need help!
