4.30's are in

Thats right, I now have 4.30's in my daily driven 2000 Auto GT Vert

And I LOVE THEM!!!!!!

Already made a roadtrip to Panama City Beach (about 7 hours)

And I managed 20 MPG's!!!!!!, even after pimpin the beach top down and all

And they pull like a MOFO!!!!!

I'd advise the 4.30's to anyone considering a gear swap

I have my 4.30 gears setting here in the living room, along with an aluminum driveshaft, driveshaft safety loop, and Im waiting on my 31 spline axles to get here. I cant wait. Something tells me though my reaction will be like "Whoa, these gears are awesome, wish I had gotten 4.56's".

Id there such a thing as having too low a gear? I mean do you get to a certain point where you actualy start hurting performance?

In the sense of running out of gear and having to shift at the end of the track, yes. Thats part of the reason why I chose 4.30 gears over 4.56 gears. I just hope I dont regret my decision. Apparenty this guys happy with his decision of 4.30 gears.

Does that all change when you are running a power adder? I heard that's its better to run higher gears with a supercharger or a blower for example.

If you have an auto would you recommend 4.10s or 4.30s. I am looking for alot of pull. Anyone know how much top end you lose? I am about to make a choice on gears and I want some input.

it all has to do with trap speed. you want you car to be somehwere near redline in 1:1 by the end of the quarter mile. if you are not you are leaving something on the table. you don't want to shift into overdrive either so yes there is such thing as too low.

with a power adder in the equation 4:30 would most likely be to low becaue you would have to shift into overdrive before you came through the traps.

it is all a math problem. tire size, gears, hp level, redline all figure in. anyone who says "ohh those gears are way to low" and they are just pulling that out of thier a%$ needs to shut thier pie hole.

You have a 98 GT. From what I see in your signature, your motor internally speaking is stock. Its Not a 99-04 GT with the power improved cylinder heads and cams. Therefore, you dont have the power band width that the 99+ motors do. In your case, I would recommend 4.10's for you. No more or no less gear unless if you plan on swaping cylinder heads.

NOTE TO ALL: You can still run a steep gears like 4.10s and 4.30s with boost, just you might drop your trap speed due to having to shift into final gear at the end of the track. To avoid this, you can always go with a taller tire.

SWEEEEET! have fun with them, I have 3:73's, i love them. But I got a chance to drive a heavily modded 98 cobra with 4:30's, all I can say is wow, thing just threw you back, and they are actually very streetable, don't fear the gear! unless you are making ALOT of power.

My friends dad had somthing like 5.60s.. somthing insane, in his old muscle-era camaro. Supposedly it wouldn't be able to go any faster then like 100 mph

Just to let everyone know, I've also has 3.73's and 4.10's in the same rearend, and I am DEFINITELY the happiest w/ the 4.30's

They pull AWESOME!!!!!

And anyone who is worried about losing "top-end" is a ditz anyways, if you can't get there in the 1/4, you shouldn't be doin it, thats all there is to it. If you wanna run top-end, go run 140, lose control, etc....and get off the roads that we naively consider to be safe.

Sorry bout the rant, but I hate when ppl ask, "Are they gonna kil my topend"

Also, I'd suggest no more than 4.10's w/ a power adder, if you go lower, you may very well run out of gear in the 1/4

For an auto, 4.30s. They are supposedly the equivalent to a manual with 4.10s. Anything, is better than stock.
