Those trucks arent light man, id say forced induction is gonna be your freind in this case.

There was a guy with a bunch of videos of his N/A F-150 running into the 14's if I remember correctly. However, I dont remember if it was a 4.6 or 5.4. Try to find them on www.videos.streetfire.net. It can be done, but its gonna cost alot of money.

As far as the engine, it shouldnt have the PI heads on it. If I remember right, they made right around 235-240 hp or so in the trucks.

In 98' the F150 was rated at 210hp. I wouldn't recommend doing the PI headswap if you're planning on a S/C later on.

Man, was it really that low? Maybe I was thinking of semi-newer (same body style though) F-150's.

Ya, I believe you are thinking of the PI headed trucks.

Well, weve got 2 cams in our engines... just makes it more expensive...

If you are going forced induction, be careful with what kind of cam you choose. Some are blower freindly, some not.

If you can afford all of these mods including a supercharger, then you should have just bought a Lightning in the first place. Sell this truck and buy a Lightning.

the 4.6 mod motor's really don't response to bolt on's like the old trusty 5.0's did.
If seeing serious drop in et is your goal. Power adders are your friend. I'd think about a turbo setup on there but that's me tons of room in the engine bay no-one would expect it.
Nitrous will get a good drop in the et but filling bottles gets old. oh well still cheaper than a blower and I outrun the blower cars I know
Blower - Kb's are good choices the power rigth then is nice prolly won't need much gear to have fun in it.

what kind of mods have you guys been doing to your 4.6 96-98 mustangs? what hp and et's do you get?

Umm Kb makes it a power adder and I hope that it'd be over 320hp.

To hit the 300RWHP level N/A . Cams (aftermarket and since you aren't sure yet on overall plan I'd go with the comp 270's and springs), all the bolt on's, Full exhaust, and a good tune and maybe a set of Ported Pi heads.

So true. I have a 97 4X4 F150 short cab/flareside, 4.6/5 spd. I love the truck but it is HEAVY. I couldn't imagine this thing with an automatic. You need a lot of low-end torque (unlike a lighter Stang) to move that beast around quickly and the 4.6 isn't known for low-end torque. I doubt your king cab is much lighter, so I would recommend a supercharger and gears. I tried some mods like a 93 octane tune, CAI, cat-back and it just didn't do much. For starters I would do a flow-through cat-back (like Magnaflows), install a K&N air filter and remove the silencer. Good luck just going "all engine", I am still curious if it works for you, though.

Read my sig below for my Mustang mods.

A Nitrous Express kit is a great bang for the buck.

I've pretty much done it all to a 96 4.6 Mustang GT. Here's a good place to start. http://www.themustangshop.ca/site/cat_explore.php?c=680&Method=Category
They're in Calgary. I sold a my set of stock 2004 Mustang GT cams to a friend with a 98 F150 with the 4.6. He was really happy with the results. Said it really helped gain power. Easy place to start and the cams are cheap. I just bought another set of 04 GT cams off e-bay for $70 just in case I need them sometime.
