4 or 5 lug

At what horsepower level should one change the number of lugs for their wheels? I have no idea. Or is it possible to leave it 4 lug, but just go with heavy duty wheel studs and axles.

you can run the four lug if you upgrade the studs and shafts. But going 5 lug will give you a wider wheel choice options... flip a coin. you can't go wrong either way.

5 lug gives you more options for bigger brakes too.

apollo, how much was the rear modified, I mean a 9's car has got to have close to 700 Hp or more. what did you do to the axles, dif, and drive shaft? Does it have 28 or 31 splines?

5 lug swap is 99% for the wheel options BUT there are more 4 lug options than there used to be

the whole 5 lugs is stronger than 4 lugs part is true, but its very unlikely that it will ever become a concern.

It take in excess of 6,000 pounds to shear off an average lug stud. I think you'll be okay.

buddy of mine has a 4 lug disc setup in his 85 hatch with an 03 termi motor and twisted all 4 of his lugs on both sides of the car at launch

Yeah, slicks will do that whether you have 4 or 5 studs. ARP makes a stud just for those situations.

I know this car has 5 studs per wheel.

built 8.8 35 spline Moser axles with studs,full spool,456 gears,welded tubes,c-clip eliminators,anti roll kit,adj upper/lowers,welded torque boxes,springs and sub frame connectors.Yes the mustang is 4 lug

Thanks, I think apollo made my mind up for me, I am going to stay 4 lug. You can't argue 4 or 5 lugs with a 9 second 4 lug car.
