i saw these wheel spacers online the other day that you can fit over your 4 lugs and convert it to 5 lug. They have different bolt patterns available and are custom made:

has anyone tried this?
-thanks

too many accidents on here with any kind of wheel spacer. I would stay away from it. Spend the extra dough and do a 5 lug conversion.

they would be a good way to go if your car is a trailer qween and all you do is take it to shows on a trailer. I wouldn't trust spacers to drive around the block. I have seen some bad things from them just on this site.

Let's get this straight... Wheels SPACERS ARE BAD!!! WHEEL ADAPTERS ARE NOT!. These bolt onto the rotor just like a wheel, and if properly torqued, NO wheels are gunna go flying off. The ONLY problem with those... they're 2 INCHES wide... so you'd need custom wheels with 2 inches MORE backspacing.

Also... Who here thinks Maximum Motorsports is a crappy company that sells crappy parts that are unsafe???? Probably no one here... But they make SPACERS that are basically adapters. They are safe. I don't think a super reputable company like MM would sell crap that's unsafe.

For the cost of the adapters, one could do a 5 lug conversion usin all Ford parts.Mark VII rotors and a couple of Ford Ranger axles and drums.

I'm with him..OEM parts, and done right. Wheel adaptors are a band-aid, and like someone else mentioned, you would need custom wheels with proper backspacng to work...so you would be spending more money, and still not have the improved platform to allow for future brake/wheel/suspension upgrades.

I usually agree with you poopdawg but not on this. Maximum Motorsports might make a decent product but how that product is installed and used isn't on them. While agreed that spacers and adapters aren't dangerous but the method of installing them can be. Some have found out the hard way that you need to get longer and stronger studs. I don't think anyone will argue that the spacer is really the problem as they don't break. The studs break and the wheels go flying leaving the driver wondering "what moron lost a wheel" as it passes them on the freeway. that being said....

I believe one of the best of many reasons to do a proper 5 lug swap (besides wheel choice) is the brake upgrades. Installing 2 piston calipers, cobra discs, and rear discs are great for these old stangs. The wheel choice is just another plus to it.

No, see.. Their spacers ARE adapters... but they adapt nothing. They bolt to the hub using the studs, and provides new ones for the wheels to bolt on. These are safe... The type that are JUST spacers are def. unsafe... It takes away from lug nut contact.
