I'm in the process of getting information together for a 428 rebuild, and I have some quesitions for you guys.

1. Should any engine rebuilder build it or should I try to find a FE pro for this one?
2. I've heard that putting in a windage tray would increase the HP, keeping the oil in the bottom of the oil pan. Is this true?
3. Should there be any porting (I think that's correct word) or opening up any of the oil passage ways to keep it flowing better?
4. I'm going to try to put the aluminum heads, water pump, and intake on to lighten it up. Any comments or suggestions on this?

I would like to get 450-500+ HP out of the 428 if possible. Not going to be racing, but just want it there for whatever purpose. I know that's a lot of questions, but if there is anything else I might be over-looking, please feel free to post them.

Many thanks
Dave

1. No, do some research, the FE's have little quirks. If you've never built a motor, I'd look for a pro, if you've done some, with research and more timeline, you can do it yourself, but you still need to find a compotent machine shop.

2. Yes, a windage tray will help.

3. Yes, there are several oiling mods, this is part of the quirks that many builders don't know about.

4. If you can afford it, aluminum is the way to go. You can have almost as much if not the same or more in R&Ring a set of iron heads to flow as good as out of the box Edelbrock heads. Also buy the heads bare, you get springs with cam sets and the valves and keepers are junk.

5. The FE books out there have much mis-information in them, check out, search, and join the FordFE.com website. Not to take away anything from StangNet, but there is SO much more info on the FE's over there, you'll be glad you checked it out.

This is what these guys do. Talk about FE motors.

http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/74182

Plus if you want to research parts and stuff. Go here.

Not to take away from stagnet. But FE stuff is different then all the other motors. Use someone that knows how to work/build those motors.

Hey Larry. I wish, I am coming up to watch. The car is not finished. The motor and tranny are coming out of it this week or next to get rebuilt. I need to rebuild the frontend and brakes while those are out. Just finished up the new ladderbars and rearend, fuel cell and trunk. The inside has been completely redone. So I am thinking june or july at the earlest to have it running. If your going to be there I will come by and visit. That race looks like its going to be great.

I'm the guy you've got to pay to get in.
I'm the one putting it on. I had looked back at the roster
and saw your name, but didn't have down that you were
bringing a car. I finally put 2&2 together and saw your
description and thought that would be B/A if it showed up.

LOL...I guess I will meet you then. Maybe next year I can run the car. At my age I might scare myself to death when I finish it now...
