You sound like me. I want improvements but I don't want to change the car. My mantra for this build is "do no harm." I want what Ford should have offered. I like the old school slots because it was penned that way by the design team. I really need a different hood scoop but am trying to make the original scoop and an air gap intake to play nice together.

All my cars are red except my Patriot Blue Durango which replaced a Bright Red Durango whose engine took a dump at 71,000 miles. Even the wife's car is red. My trusty old Ram is burgundy. My mustang II of course....is red. None were chosen so to speak. They fell into my lap in deals I couldn't refuse. I don't want another red car.

But, that candy apple red looks both sporty as well as classy. The car show we went to a couple weeks ago had a candy apple red 69' Mach I next to me and it just put my car to shame. I was mentally prepared to keep mine what it is but now I have to figure out how to paint.

With that said it would have to be my vote. My only hesitation is it's probably going to be my color choice when that rich uncle finally gets out of the poor house.

Offset air cleaners are one of the oddities of the II world. Even you cant get away from it.

I have spare red door panels but I just went out to get a pic they have surface mold. I have the side panels and kick panels but they are rough.

Yes, same as you I wouldn't really be having as much a problem with a shorter height manifold. there has to be a little give and take to mix performance and fit. On the one side factory is all about fit first, on the race side all about performance. I, like you, seek a happy mix.

The 69 Candy apple is a dark red. I like dark reds as opposed to like poppy reds like viper red. Viper red is a beautiful color, just not my cup or tea.

Thanks for the gesture of the red interior stuff. Yeah people probably think I am crazy for considering changing out a mint black 78 deluxe vinyl for something else...I will admit it is a hard step to consider, but if the right minty shape interior came along I would probably take a hard look at it.
i forgot that for a red change I would need all the plastics too so that is probably a pipe dream...

Yep, I love the darker colors. A candy royal blue that fades to black was always my dream paint job. But I did some photoshopping and the dark red just looks so good with either chrome or the blacked-out trim. The dark blues just don't work. I think it's a modern color on an old car hangup in my brain.

That candy red is a 60's color and works mentally for me. Plus it's just so versatile imo.

Yeah there are other colours I like, just not on this car. It doesn't seem to blend well with newer colours really. I find myself gravitating towards 60's and 70's colours, again maybe because the inner me wants it to seem stock-ish..lol I even thought about the big panel cobra decals for a while, because I really like them although they may not be a good choice for my build, and my car isn't a Cobra.
On a weird tangent I also am dying to paint something with flake. I don't know how that would work on a II? but I really want some flake paint like the 70's jet boats had...

Maybe for a 30 year old or younger. Anyone older? No way. But no matter how old it's very cool looking.

These cars just attract attention. Mind you mine is rough and I stay under 51 mph d/t vibrations. We went to my grandkids drive in birthday party yesterday. About 20 minutes each way on rural roads. Had 5 thumbs up, a few nods and a guy get on my ass, pull beside me on a 2 lane road just to wave and smile. Then he backed off, fell in behind and cruised with me. My kids father in law proclaimed "oh , I did donuts in someones yard in one of those back in the day."

Any color you choose will be perfect. Just Candy Apple Red will be even more perfect.

I have a suggestion for your filter base if you're interested. I don't know how big the flange is on that throttle body, but you could drill and tap a small hole in that and use a small socket head cap screw bottomed out, then either cut a notch or drill a hole in the base in the orientation you need. That would almost foolproof it enough a child could put the air cleaner on.

(Edit: could also just add a roll pin or dowel instead of tapping the hole.....)

And I'm also not a big fan of red. It seems everywhere you look there are red builds.

70s Jet Boat Flake!!!?!

Whoo hoo!
Not necessarily appropriate on a muscle car but so tempting!
Looks good on some low riders and such. Love me some big flake

I always thought the Cobra II's would of looked better with the base color and instead of vinyl stripes, have a very light coat of flakes in the exact locations of the stickers. But the work involved would be crazy wouldn't it?

Today I'm dreaming of 65 Tropical Turquoise with 78 Billboard stickers done in white with dark blue accents.
Never been done? Doesn't exist? Who cares, your the kind guy who likes a challenge.

Your car has survived this long and deserves to be a cobra if it wants too.
Last one shows how well light blue/white works on these cars.

Nothing much to report. Got my fibreglass hood installed and a big hole cut in it.
Started a new job last week and worked 12 hr days for 10 days straight. Hopefully I will get some more time soon. I will post some pics soon.
Also took the molding strips off my old bumpers in preparation for the move to the fibreglass ones. Has anyone used the aftermarket stripping? or did you re use the old. Mine is not bad. I have two types of holdings though. One is a stick on rubber strip with a few stapes set up, and the other is a hard plastic with metal clips.
