I didn't post this in tech because I don't think it's that technical of a question. It comes down to an opinion.

How many of you would like to do or have done a 460 swap into your fox? Do you like it?

How many oppose? And why?

Daydreaming in class today, combined with youtube lead me to start to consider this as something to do in a few years.

Theres a member here that has a 460 fox. Things to consider: Its alot of weight. Parts are more expensive and not as readily available in the aftermarket area as a 351 or 302.

for added cubes 351 over a 460. lighter, cheaper, fits better, more available aftermarket. Dollar for dollar the power you can make out of the 351 vs the 460 ends it right there for me.

If you do it RIGHT, it would be cool. By RIGHT, I mean I'd expect to see at least 1.3-1.4 HP/CI naturally aspirated, which would put a 460 in the 600-650 HP range. Unfortunately, that just isn't easy to do without a lot of money.

460 = boat anchor.
too much weight and unless you build the hell out of it, you'll end up with a heavier, slower car

theres a kid in the town i live in with a 460 in a 70 mustang...its beyond slow

stroked 351 is definatly a much better choice. But if your set on the BBF motor I know theres a company that makes a swap kit, think it includes the oil pan, motor mounts and headers

Yeah, that's definately one concern. I've heard they can weigh almost 900 lbs dry. But no, I'd want to build the hell out of it. Stroke it, best heads I can find, big ole' carb on top, and the list goes on. I'd be shooting for 500+ cubes and at least 650 horses. But yeah, that'd be expensive too.

It's a dream. I'd need a lot of money to do it, as well as another car to DD while it's in pieces. And at that point, I'd probably just completely restore the body and engine bay of my fox anyways.

If i could have two cars, i would have another coupe with a stroked out 460. You just can't compete with 540ci of raw stump pulling torque spewing power. I would have to have two cars though because i couldn't have my primary toy being something that doesn't stop or turn very well. If i had to settle for one all around best engine combo (without getting unrealistic with the budget) it would be a stroked 351. It might weigh more than a 302 but with a tubular K and aluminum heads you can just about offset all of the weight compared to an iron head 302 with stock K, and you'll get a healthy amount of torque and power without sacrificing street manners. That said...i'm really shocked that i haven't seen a centrifugal blown big block setup yet. I guess the problem is just space in front of the engine to fit it.

I swear I've seen that exact thing on youtube. I'd look it up for you right now, but the fiancee and I are getting ready to watch Chuck.

i was doing a bbf 572 with a 101 mm turbo. i was looking to make 2000+hp to run true 10.5. a 460 is alot of money to build it right. it is heavy and everything is alot bigger. the headers was 2 1/4x4 and my pipe off the turbo was a 5 inch pipe. i put a rear end in that was 40 spline axles and it was over 5,000 for it. if u are looking to make 500-700 hp i would bo a small block. i never got to finish my big block because i had some 1 hit me on my bike

I have always wanted a fox with a big block stick shift car. Thus far I have found enough power in the SBF for me. As previously mentioned there is the weight disadvantage and you got to get it to the ground. From years of playing in the dirt there is nothing like a small block getting it to the ground! Especially naturally aspirated screaming SB

If I went with a 351, N/A, what kind of power could I expect if I really did my homework and built it right? I'm anticipating throwing a lot of money at this car once I'm out of school. I want to replace/restore everything.

That would be sticking with the stock stroke, too. Build a 393 or 408 and the sky is the limit.

I couldn't do diesel. Though that would surprise the hell out of some people, I bet. Stroked 460 to 500+ cubes is still sounding really good. Though a 408 wouldn't be bad either.

I need money.

I have a friend who build a very mild and reasonable 393ci with Patriot heads and a custom cam, duel plane intake and a Demon and it made 500hp at the crank and i'm not sure how much torque. It was a really low budget build.
