5.0 Explorer heads don't work?!?!

So I called the junk yard today to see about some heads off a 5.0 Explorer. When I told the guy what I was looking for, he told me that the heads on a 5.0 Explorer will not work on a 5.0 mustang. He said the way the exhaust manifolds bolt to the heads, that these heads are "seperate" from other 5.0's and will not work on a Mustang.
Is there any truth to this, or is the junk yard guy wrong?

They bolt down perfectly fine whether they are GT40's or GT40P's.

P's require specific headers that you can buy to make them work, regular 40's don't and can use stock manifolds.

THEY WILL WORK!!!

However, depending on what year Explorer you're talking about .... it will either have GT40 heads ... or GT40P heads. In mid-1997, Ford started using the "P" heads.

They both work, but the GT40P's work better with special "P-specific" headers. You don't HAVE to use those headers, though. You CAN use regular Mustang headers, but you'll have to modify your spark plug boots, or get a different style of boot. Do a search on it in the regular 5.0 Tech section on here. Several guys over there have used the "P" heads with regular headers.

Ps do NOT require P specific headers

But you arent running Equal length shorties!
If you want shorties... goahead and pick up the P shorties.

For long tubes, BBKs and MACs will work.

He is wrong. And for an extra tip, never tell the junkyard you're looking for Mustang parts, you will get charged a premium, even if the parts are off an Explorer. Next time just tell them your moms explorer took a dump and she's looking to get it back on the road for as cheap as possible.

Yeah just like when i went to a car lot to look at a truck so i could use it to haul the stang and my mr2. I don't speak spanish so the price they told me and the downpayment was ridiculous. Then i had my friend ask and he is from venezula and they quoted him have the price they told me

Thanks for the input guys. I did find out the heads he was telling me about were "p" heads, so thats why they "would not work...".

Do any of you guys know what kind of plug wires I will need if I get the "p" heads? Are they a certain angle(like 45* or 90* or something like that)???

90, like chevies and you can run almost any header except an equal length, which sucks anywayys because they burn wires no matter what

Yeah, what he said. Just get some un-equal length shorty headers or long tube headers for a Mustang .... and use 90 degrees boots. You should be fine.

the lower intake is not the same and needs porting, run a tmoss ported lower and an explorer upper and it will run great.

when all used with a gt40 lower, i have seen the explorer outpull bothgt40 and cobra upper topend on the dyno

LMAO. Yes, that's the only thing you have to do to run the intake, lol.

:OT: This is making me feel a little better. How do you think it will do with a 347? Ported, that is.
