I was reading the instructions for the harness from fordfuelinjection.com, and the directions look a little complicated. but, a lot of people say its easy. When i first start the motor, what should i go about doing before i crank it over after the conversion is done? what should i do before hand, or what should i expect while the motor is running for the first time? other important things i should take note of before i start the conversion?

They rarely idle on their own at first. Usually, you need to adjust the TPS and idle screw - even then they can hunt for idle a little bit. Make sure you have either a new, or very clean IAC valve (funky thing on the side of the throttle body). I dont have my favorites handy on this machine, or I would post a thread - but there are many threads about setting idle and TPS - you should have no trouble finding one.

Good luck man

It so happens that I have an almost new eledbrock 5.0 waterpump for $100. It's squeaky clean - engine torn down shortly after it was installed...its even in the original box.

If you know how to work with automotive wiring, have a wiring diagram for your car and can follow instructions, wiring a fuel injection system into your car is not that difficult. This book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/08...5807/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-4076379-6953511?ie=UTF8 was a valuable aid for installation and troubleshooting when I converted my 79 Mustang Pace Car Replica from 2.3 Turbo to 5.0 EFI. BTW it fired up, idled and ran well from the get-go.

Make sure all grounds are good and that the 61-pin connector to the processor box is secure. The plastic cover for this connector is important for pressing the wire ends to the pins on the computer. Securing the connector with zip-ties also helps.

Also it is a good idea to use a later-model starter solenoid. This is the one with the terminals on the end of the cylinder. It has a diode built into it that will protect the computer from power surges.

I second the Probest book Yeloxr7 called out.
It'll help with the wiring, and includes how to pull the codes and what they are without buying scanner.
I had 7 codes to clear after I did the conversion in '97.
I had a bad barometric sensor, bad TFI module (I don't recommend a mallory EFI distributor) and an issue with a ground wire that would sometimes open.

If I were to do it again, I'd get the complete harness, computer, with all sensors from a car I knew was operational though.

well, I just got a distributor with a TFI module from a guy yesterday that was working when he puled it off the car. Does the barometric sensor come on the harness or is it a sensor that i have to buy myself? Im already gonna get the harness from fordfuelinjection.com. I almost have everything i need, just missing the mass air meter, ECU, return style sending unit for the gas tank, and the harness.

dos anybody have some pics of what a few of the sensors look like, like the barometric pressure sensor? Also, im using long tube headers, and the instructions for the fordfuelinjection harness states to use 16.5 in long oxygen sensors!!!!!! is there really oxygen sensors that long?

John

The Probst book explains what each sensor does. I can't remember if there is a picture of each one.

02 sensors are fairly short, about 3" long total. This measurement you have been given may be the length of the connecting wire or just :bs: .

I think it could be the length of the wire, it says to use a SG40 oxygen sensor.
