first if you want it to be smog legal(all i know is the california conversion, cuz i'm currently putting a 5.0 in a first gen (1984) Rx-7, is if your rx-7 came from california, the 5.0 needs to be oringinaly sold for california. so you can not put a florida 5.0 in a cali 7. second is you need every exhaust peice from the mustang, the Smog pump, cats, heat risers, everything... then basically after that you need the engine, transmission, wiring harness, CPU and a custom drive shaft. and if you bought a donor mustang then you can take the rear end out of that and put it in the 7. the 7 has low rear end gears somethign like 4.30's or something.
http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/ this is where i'm buying my stuff from. people have problems though. you have to turn the engine cross member 180 degress, and then you mount the custom motor amounts and custom transmission corss member. but when flipping it around, the holes dont match up quite right. some people get a crow bar and bend it into place, others loosen some bolts, and you can move some parts into place, then get an alignment. after the engine install, some people have problems with the shifter location. the shifter is a little too far forward, so some cutting might be required. after everything is in, you will need a speedo conversion, and a tach conversion. they sell those parts on the granny speed shop site.
if you want to do a chevy rx7 swap, this place sells parts:
http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/ But i've heard lots of bad things about brian hinson. for example it took hinson about 7 months to fab up a custom mount for a transmission.
go to
www.torquecentral.com for forums, but its slow over there, nothing like stangnet.
