5.0 into a 2nd gen rx-7?

first if you want it to be smog legal(all i know is the california conversion, cuz i'm currently putting a 5.0 in a first gen (1984) Rx-7, is if your rx-7 came from california, the 5.0 needs to be oringinaly sold for california. so you can not put a florida 5.0 in a cali 7. second is you need every exhaust peice from the mustang, the Smog pump, cats, heat risers, everything... then basically after that you need the engine, transmission, wiring harness, CPU and a custom drive shaft. and if you bought a donor mustang then you can take the rear end out of that and put it in the 7. the 7 has low rear end gears somethign like 4.30's or something. http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/ this is where i'm buying my stuff from. people have problems though. you have to turn the engine cross member 180 degress, and then you mount the custom motor amounts and custom transmission corss member. but when flipping it around, the holes dont match up quite right. some people get a crow bar and bend it into place, others loosen some bolts, and you can move some parts into place, then get an alignment. after the engine install, some people have problems with the shifter location. the shifter is a little too far forward, so some cutting might be required. after everything is in, you will need a speedo conversion, and a tach conversion. they sell those parts on the granny speed shop site.

if you want to do a chevy rx7 swap, this place sells parts: http://www.hinsonsupercars.com/ But i've heard lots of bad things about brian hinson. for example it took hinson about 7 months to fab up a custom mount for a transmission.

go to www.torquecentral.com for forums, but its slow over there, nothing like stangnet.

http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/ is the place i was going to get the conversion for the 2nd gen rx-7. would i just pull the entire wireing harness out and put it in the 7 and whatever is not needed just hide those wires? i heard the shifter should line up perfect into the stock shifter location....but u said its a little off, does this effect shifting at all? for the drive shaft.....will i need to find one or have a shop makes one and how much do u think it will cost? for the tach and speed and what not im going all autometer guaged, ill costom mill a cluster like florida50 makes. anything else i should know please let me know. plus any pics please post them.

oh ya and i already have a 88 5.0 EFI...would i have any problems doing the EFI swap or that just with the computer and harrness?

no the shifter, should work fine, as long if there is enogh room to move it up and down and not hit anything. EFI shouldnt be a problem. as long as you know or have a friend that knows how to do wiring.

heres what i was talking about the cross member:

i cant post the pics of the interior, that shows the shifter configuration. its alittle too big. can someone host them for me?

but if you look at the empty engine bay pics, see how the cross member is facing two difffernt ways, the oil pans for the 5.0 and the rotary and in differnt shapes. the big "lump" part of the oil pan is near the rear of the engine for thew rotary. and the oil pan " lump" for the 5.0 is near the front of engine.

www.wrongmotor.com they have some prety badass piston Rx-7's. mostly corvette and camaro or firebird engine'd Rx-7's. but there is on Grand National 7. (V6 turbo)

http://www.misred.com/ has a GN TT 7. really nice.

just try searching online for V8 Rx-7's
