One thing that I like about the fox community is that the cars are old enough now that if you see a nice one then you KNOW the owner is a stanger. You can tell how much attention and detail they give to their car by its condition. You know you can go up and have a cool friendly conversation with the guy. One that looks great stands out of the crowd. It doesn't even have to be modified.

With the newer mustangs, especially the 99+ mustangs, you usually can't tell by just looking at the car. They're all still in good shape. So you can't just assume that the person is really stanger. Sure they drive a stang, but driving a stang and being a hobbyist are two different things.

Very good point! I completely agree. especially when you have a conversation with you and they tell you that their cold air kit added 80 horses to their stock 400 horses!

i had a 67 camaro that ran mid 12's before i got my first mustang, got in a financial pinch and might as well of just gave my camaro away, then i turned around and bought a 91 lx hatch and fell in love.

yes my camaro was way faster but something has to be said about almost 30 years of technology. the mustang handled way better, stopped way better, was all around a much better car.

i have had 4 fox bodys since then and recently found a deal on a sn95, i dont know much about the sn95 yet but it seems pretty decent, i especially like how it came with the k member brace and the strut tower brace, it feels really solid compared to my fox. i have to say ill always be in love with the fox's but something still has to be said about technology.

i cant even count how many mustang magazines i have layin around and i cant even count how many times my wife finds it necessary to move them around from place to place because she doesnt understand why i have them. i keep almost all of them because you just never know if there is an article that you might want to look back on. right before i started my 393 build i dug into all of them and started looking at different build ups to start forming ideas. i do find it pretty annoying that the majority of the mag's are all about the newer stangs but i also understand why they are like that, if thats what pays the bills then i would assume any of us would be doing the same thing.

i cant imagine not having my fox but to each his own

almost nah just kidding, i hit a 3/4 ton chevy truck dead center of his rear axle, the guy apparently thought he could make it so he stomped it and didnt make it. the cop said that the trucks driveshaft was about 100 feet away from where the truck came to rest, he also said the gas tank was about 100 feet in the opposite direction. when the ambulance arrived they actually told me that was probably the safest place i could have hit the truck because if i was any more to the left i probably would have went under the middle of the truck and chances are the bottom of the truck would have ripped the top of my car off and took my head with it. my arm had a ton of glass imbedded in it and i had 2 black eyes and my nose was afu from the airbag but i walked away from it and was in good enough shape to start guttin the car the next day, this brought a whole new meaning to absoultely loving fox bodys, the entire area around the cockpit might as well of been like a capsule or something, there was no damage at all anywhere around where i was sitting nor where the passenger would of been sitting and i must of been going somewhere around 70 upon impact.

I've only been here a couple years, but, in that time, I've seen that, at almost any time of day, or year, the 5.0 guys outnumber everyone else, 2 or 3, or more to one. Corral is about the same. Between the two, thats like 250,000 members. So why is it so hard for any of the magazines- most notably is the one with the huge "5.0" across the top- to actually cater to the largest segment of the hobby? Old car guys have Mustang Monthly and a plethora of 64-73 only stuff(they seem to think they're the real Mustangers), and sn95 and 197 guys get most of the other attention. Do they believe we all have these cars, or that we really wish we had them? I love my LX, since 1987, and, aside from maybe an 03 Sonic blue terminator, and would never replace it with any other pony ever produced. Is it the advertisers trying to sell a multitude of new crap shoving this on us? And when they do show one, its this hugely overdone, can't ever drive in the real world drag car, or has some nuclear turbo system, I've never seen on the street, don't know anyone that owns, won't ever build, and don't care about. Hell, there was a nice show here in Kankakee, back in June, like 200 Mustangs, and only 3 aero nose, Fox cars. Apathy? Am I just not drinking enough, or just ranting out of turn?

i couldnt agree with you any more i have a subscription to the "5.0" mags and all i see are new mustangs...i think they finall got the idea though becacuse today i picked up a 79-93 mustang magazine that is really good

See, I never would have thought of the safety aspect of these cars. My near misses back in my street racing days I always attributed to my own prowess- turns out it was both good design, and the really understanding(and forgiving) almighty. Glad you came out ok, must've been no time to even say, "****!" Any good parts left? Foxes hafta be the largest segment of used parts, you can find something someone can use, even after that!

Thats it, Perry Farm! I can't find the flyer I had, but go on their site, and next years might be scheduled by now. Good show, there were like 200 cars, but they definitely need more real foxes. My buddy brought his 88 GT, original down to the VR's(2,000 miles- yes, two thousand), parked next to another original owner black GT, an 89, you'd have thought they were the red-headed stepchildren. Not 1 LX hatchback- wait til mines done- and I think I remember a notch there. These are 20 year old cars, nice ones should be shown.

ya i was shocked about the sunroof as well, it wasnt cracked or anything but the 2 plastic pieces on the front of the glass that slide into the roof were both shattered as well as the rear latch so its almost like the front near the windshield was shoved back some.

ya i stole everything useable off the car before i hauled it off, it only weighed a tad over 550lbs when they weighed it at the yard i took it too. this all happened over 2 years ago so i dont think i have anything left. sold the majority of it on craigslist and of course i kept anything i thought i might use on another car. the only thing i didnt pull from the car that i kind of wish i would have tried to cut out was the clutch pedal assembly, i didnt wanna mess with it cause the firewall and floor was pushed up alittle bit so it would of really sucked removing it but after paying 80 bucks for one some time later when i converted from auto to stick i wish i would of took the time to just cut it out.

i recently started taking the block down, the shaft on the water pump got shoved back so hard it went straight through the back of the waterpump as well as through the timing cover. the drivetrain itself got shoved back so hard i couldnt seperate the driveshaft yoke from the rear of the transmission. i sold it at the fun ford weekend in fontana basicly as a core.

the good news over the whole thing is i got over 3 times what i paid for the car from the insurance company, they let me keep the car so then i gutted it and scrapped it and got some more cash. so all said in done im came out pretty good.

i cut out the airbag and hung it up on the wall in the garage.

And it really pisses me off when people call the possibility of Ford putting the 5.0 Cammer engine in the S197 "bringing back the 5.0". No, its not being brought BACK. the engine has never been in a mustang before. Its just another marketing adventure to make money off of an old name. Which is very odd, also, to hark abck to the days of the 5.0 (80s and 90s) in a car that harks back to the 60s, in 2010...

The same way chrysler "brought back" the Hemi.

I think it's more than actually bringing the actual 5.0 back. It's about the reputation the "5.0 engine" earner...and trying to revive it and tap into it. If they can make another kick ass 5.0L modular power plant, and use the pushrods solid 5.0 rep, then i say go for it. WHen i talk to non-car enthusiats about my 5.0 engine...they think it can beat Ferrari's because of the huge rep the 5.0 had in the 80's

As for the new Mustangs. I love them. If i could afford a 2nd car payment i would buy one ina second. I loved my '03 GT.

In a quarter mile drag race, a moderately built 5.0 will hand most Ferrari's their ass on a plate.

Yep, and its ironic that you go to Walgreens today(if they're open, Christmas), undoubtedly, you can find more magazines with a Ferarri than a 5.0. I don't wish i had, need, or care much about those, either! Look, I don't dislike the newer Mustangs, but there are just more 5.0 guys, have been and will continue to be, than any other group. We have spent piles of $ on our cars, for the last 20 years. We should garner some attention from publishers who want to sell books.

I agree. If there was a dedicated 5.0 only mag, i would subscribe.

Reason i've let my subscriptions to 5.0 mag and MM&FF run out is because they are too 05+ or 99-04 dedicated. It's not a bad thing, but i no longer own a 99=04 Mustang so it's of no use to me to see mods and i definitely am getting sick of 50 different body kitted 05+ Mustangs.

I'm cutting back on my Mustang exposure..and the only models i really want to be focused on are the 79-93 models
