I have a 1991 GT and I'm removing the 133K 5.0 to fix a little rust in the driver side shock tower...what is the typical cost to have the engine freshened up? I figure I might as well while its out. Thanks.
It probably shouldn't be too much, but you never know what you're looking at cost-wise, until you break her open. If your rod and main journals look good, you might get away with new bearings and a re-ring. It could end up with undercut mains on the crank, a .030 overbore, etc. On the low end, I'd say you might be able to do it as cheaply as a few hundred bucks if everything is in good shape. On the high end, you could be upwards of a grand, figuring the worst case scenario.
It really depends on what you have done to it. I would budget $2500.
Are you having any troubles with the engine??
I would check the oil pressure with a mechanical guage as well as do a leak down test before doing anything with the motor because................. if it ain't broke.......................don't fix it.
