This is not just a thread about what to do....but also what combo to go with too

Some may remember a while back i was pondering doing this.... i have been back and forth between the 408 or doing a 5.0

And well basicly... i came accross a GREAT deal on a complete 5.0, 80,000 miles smoke free, leak free, COMPLETE, including the wiring harness AND the computer :hail2:

So heres my questions,

1. What is needed in the swap? im guessing motor mounts for sure, i would liek to go solid though, or at least poly.

2. What do i do about headers

3. Im using my old C4, im going to rebuild it with a nice shift kit, a nice stall and a trannie cooler. will it bolt right up?

4. What should i do about the starter?

5. I have a powermaster one wire on the 302 now, can i reuse it?

6. What about the pullies? i wont be using the ac or the power steering.

7. what would be a good size injector to use since im spraying it.

8. How or what should i use to give it a nice tune?

And last but not least

How do you like your swap and what como do you have motor wise? Im thinkign of doing a little combo liek this...

Ford F cam
Ported E7 heads with 1.7 rockers
Edelbrock upper and lower intake
Long tubes (if possible)
125 shot :hail2:

Any suggestions/ tips? im pulling the motor and trans out this weekend :bang:

headers get an exhaust shop to add the bung for the o2 to screw into any vintage header will bolt to a stock 5.0

trans will bolt right up u need a 50oz balance flexplate though with the proper tooth count just count ur stock ones!

use the stock starter with ur new flexplate with the proper tooth count

reuse the alt

the 5.0 has a 4 bolt balancer it should bolt to ur stock v belt pulley need to change the water pump to the 70 style and use the stock waterpump pulley off the 70 (the 5.0 is reverse rotation)

for the tune the puter will do most of it set the timing at 10degs and go from there probably around 12 with premuim as long as its not pinging

keep the stock 19lbs(orange) injector the nitrous kit will have an added fuel sprayer just buy a "wet kit"

the manifold really will not help that much the main bottle neck on a 5.0 is the e7 heads look for a 96-01 5.0 explorer intake it flows just as good as a cobra intake but u can pick it up for about 150.00! the stock 5.0 cam is fairly healthy to begin with i would concetrat on getting it running with fuel injection before doing a cam swap get it running reliabbly then do heads/cam!

I allready have the wet kit, i was thinking it was the NOZZLE i had to buy lol....whoops

Unless i just buy a between the manifold plate....which would be sweet lol.... i suppose just dropping it in and getting it running right first would be the smart thing to do....but then again i have a daily driver so its not liek ill be SCREWED if it dosent work lol

Thankx for all the help man!!!

Also if you want ported e7 heads, Thumper460 on this site is in florida and does wonders with the stock 5.0 heads from what I gather. I forget his site adress but look it up through the member list. You might want to go that route too.

May need to check Piston to Valve clearence with the F cam and 1.7's. That is getting close on a stock bottom end. Seen a few combos run well with the E cam and 1.7's. Sounds should get some decent power out of it either way.

The f-cam and 1.7s is a waste on any E7 head, I don't care who ports them.

If you already have the 1.7s, go with the stock cam or if you keep the stock pedestal stuff, go with the E-cam

The e-cam runs extremely well with ported stock stuff.

I have seen numerous foxbodies run 7.70s-8.20s with ported E7s/GT-40s, ported Cobra/GT-40 intake, #19, generic exhaust (off-road h and flowmasters)

Its easy to build and cheap.

1. Motor mounts are the same as any 260/289/302/351W/351C.
2. Headers are the same as any 260/289/302, except that you will need to install oxygen sensor bungs.
3. The only special part you need for the C4 setup is a 50oz imbalance flexplate.
4. Use your current starter since you will have the original C4.
5. Alternator does not matter, but the more amperage with an EFI setup, the better. Stock on '86-93 EFI Mustangs was something like 80 amps and it was only just enough. '94-95 5.0 130 amp alternators work well.
6. Either drill your old crank pully to use the 4-bolt 5.0 damper or get another damper with both bolt patterns. Also use your old water pump and timing cover.
7. You don't need more than stock 19lb/hr injectors and a fuel pressure reg until you upgrade from stock heads.
8. If you use the stock mass air meter, the adjustable fuel pressure regulator is about all you need. Just FYI, for the cost of a new mass air meter calibrated for bigger injectors you can get a MegaSquirt stand alone.

The engine in my '68 used to be an '89 GT before I sold it. It is ALOT stronger with the current mods, but I was still using a stock '89 upper intake and ported lower (upper intake flows ~190CFM, heads can do 226. Lower intake sucks without welding and I didn't weld it.). My Crane 2031 is also smog cam from the '89. Even with a single plane intake and aluminum flywheel, it has respectable low-end and pulls at least to the cam's reline of 5500. Also make sure to use at least a 180 t-stat with the EFI. The ECU comes out of warm-up enrichment mode at 140 and a 160 'stat can make economy worse due to sensor age or variation.

i have a 4 bolt crank pulley that came off of my first motor will that work?

I'm pretty sure it will, I'm not sure if the latemodel damper will change pully alignment in relation to the accesories. I'm used to dealing with pre-'69 cars and they all have 3-bolt dampers and pullies. My damper is an aftermarket short one for early cars, 50oz imbalance, and has both bolt patterns. If you can use the late damper, you may have to get a timing tape to put the timing marks in line with your pointer. Again, I'm not sure on that.
