I have a 95 gt engine and t5, i want to put it into my 65 289 coupe. i dont want to use the efi for now. I want to go the carbed route. i wuld like to keep the serpentine system as well. i have power steering will that interfere with my serpentine system. what will i have to do to the engine to make it carbed besides changing the intake manifold? i have been told that it is a pretty involved job, is there anything really tricky to the swap, oh yeah the car has a c4 right now

the power steering shouldn't be hard though you will likely have to use the pump from the 5.0 and get hose fitting adaptors so you can use your stock power steering hoses. converting from efi to carb isn't very difficult at all, basically just have to change the intakes, but you will also need a new distributor as well, the one from the 5.0 won't work without the computer. this is likely to be the trickiest part as you have to get a distributor with a gear that is compatible the roller cam inf the 5.0, if you don't get the correct gear the cam will chew it pieces really quick. the roller cam is a steel cam and uses a steel distributor gear whereas the non roller cams are cast iron and use a cast iron gear, mixing and matching the two will result in catastrophic failure of either the cam or the gear depending on the mismatch. you should be able to get a distributor that matches the steel cam from any of the ignition manufacturers such as msd or accell easily, you could also use a stock points style distributor and get a special cam gear for it from any of the cam manufacturers like comp or crane. like i said it should be a breeze other than that, and even that is not a big deal as long as you know about it ahead of time. another thing to consider is that you will either have to get a different radiator or have the lower outlet moved from the passenger side to the driver side because the water pump for the serpentine system only has a driver side outlet and it is a reverse rotation pump, no one that i am aware of is making a reverse roatation pump with a passenger side outlet and i don't think it would work anyway, and lastly you will also have to change the oil pan to a front sump pan for the early model car, the pan from your 289 should work without a problem but doesn't have provisions for the dipstick tube, so you might have to change the timing cover out as well, in any case the timing cover for the 5.0 probably doesn't have a boss for the mechanical fuel pump, but you could run an electric pump and no have to worry about that anyway, if you go this route you could probabaly just drill the hole for the dipstick as th boss for it should be cast into the timing cover already. if i have made this more confusing for you apologize i just wanted to give you as much info as possible so you don't have to many unseen setbacks. all in all this is not a difficult swap by any means, it could easily be done in a weekend provided you have all the info and the needed parts beforehand.

I just did the same swap into my 65 stang, 95 motor and a t5. After buying my 95 motor, i found out that the accessories sit back further towards the motor than the 88-93 motors. This swap is not hard, just depends on what accessorie brackets you have now and how good you are at fabricating. I didn't have powersteering, only had an alternator. My aim is jaythan902, so just im me and i can answer any questions you have. Don't forget that you need headers for a 65-66 stang. Heres a pic of my motor
