today when I was comming home, the stang backfired on the shift to 2nd gear. Scared the crap outta me. Also, when I shift into second, it feels like the motor doesnt respond quick enough. Ill shift, hit the gas, split second pause, then it reacts. Its odd. Any ideas?

Im still taking it easy on the clutch (just installed a RAM clutch 3 days ago), so its not like im high reving. It backfired around 2800-2900 rpm.

Mods are Hedman headers, o/r h-pipe, flows,and a K&N

How old are your plugs and wires? My car would backfire every so often, but that was with original plugs and wires with 80k miles on them. Replaced those and it hasn't done it yet.

Often the thermactor stuff is to blame for backfires. Do a search, as it has been covered before. If I remembered what exactly you have to do, I'd let you but I don't remember.

Also, that "pause" you are feeling is our "shift retard" for lack of a better term. It can be fixed with an aftermarket chip/tuning devise. You make adjustments to the "tip in" and timing retard settings. Basically the pause you feel is the computer slowly adding timing back in once the throttle is opened back up, ford did this to save on broken T5's.
