Hello Guys, what should be the iddling RPMs on this engine? reason for asking is that we transplanted it into our 71 match1 hooked up the vintage tach, it iddles ~1100RPM when cold then start going down but does not get below 1000.

thanks for your imputs
regards

I like mine to idle around 800-900. The accessory drive needs to have at least 700 RPM to keep full charge and good coolant flow.

Sounds like you'll need to adjust the idle. I'm sure jrichter or somebody will post up the exact process, but suffice to say that it involves setting the idle screw with the IAC unplugged.

You kept it EFI right?

Unplug the IAC and adjust the idle down to aroung 600-700RPM to just about where it runs continuously but doesn't stumble.

Then unplu the batt to reset the computer, plug the IAC back in and fire it up

Ford spec is 650-725 RPM. See the sticky link below for the idle RPM set procedure.

See the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems. Everything you need to find and fix idle problems is in there.

The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.
