5.0's are getting old! I mite go Modular

2001 Mustang GT Coupe
260 HP
3241 lbs Curb Weight
12.5 lbs/hp

1991 Mustang LX Coupe
225 hp
2775 lbs
12.3 lbs/hp

From strict math, let alone power band, gears etc... The 5.0 holds it's own.

The 4.6 would look as if it's sitting still from a stop and the 5.0 would get caught up to (if not passed but I doubt it) on high end.

That Lx coupe weight is quite underrated. My Lx weighs 3160 with aluminum heads/subframes - cancel each other out.

Stock 99-04 Gt's are capable of 100mph with some high 13's and very low 14's done several times...I haven't see a bone stock fox hit 100mph yet...:)

I'm sorry but an AFR'd stang with all the toys vs. a near stock new edge is rediculous.

Go get your **** tuned. Seriously. That should be a low 12 sec ride, whereas the new edge is a mid 14 at best.

4.6 = timing chain BS. I hate in on my 4cyl....I dont like madness on my mustang. 5.0 = easy to work on, simple, can get stuff anywhere for it.

A P/I swap 4.6 is nice, but the dohc cam cars DO run really, really well. It's all a $ game though. Everyone's all "I've gone (X) with $(x). Get over it. A COMPLETE non hack car, that has some nice things on it costs $.

I've beaten LS1's with a $900 DSM, a die grinder and $40. Who cares. It'll show half the foxes in this thread tailights. Its a 4cyl... blah

Point is, build what you like. If you're tired of the fox, don't ask a message board. Get what you want. Do you ask them all your decisions in life? I LOVE my sn95 5.0 Stock is the uber-turd, but it will be fun. Is it $ yea..Could I do it cheaper? Sure. Do I want junkyard parts and and a thrown together car? Not again ;)

I redid a fox for my brother, cause I LOVE foxbodies. Yea it drives like ****. It's a fox. That's what they do, that's what makes them special. Its a hotrod. Nothing more. It's WHY its so fun.

You want a DD, hands down sn95 or newer.
Want to go fast for not alot of money? Get something old. Mod it cheap...and get something else to drive to work. Like a 30+mpg import.

Carry on.

Yes HIS car does need to be tuned. I tried getting him to go but he didn't, and I am sure thats one reason he lost. The GT driver did hit the gears better but other than that the cars pulled pretty even. I have heard that GT is a strong running car, and it definately seemed like one.

Your DSM wouldnt show my E7, stock cammed car its tailigts :D it would be a great race though!

Appearently cars run a full second slower in OH.

I WORK at a shop with a TON of 05 cars. I know what they run.

I've NEVER seen STOCK 01+ have the mph to do that. A tuned H/C/I stang, ESP with 165s and a GOOD tune will run 110mph in the 1/4

and i know exactly what they do against my high 14sec stang.

NO! Its not! If it were you would have stated it instead of the 1/8 mile. My 5.0 beats 90% of modulars off the line. But half way down the track is where they pass me. Yes its AWSOME having a 0-60 machine, but Im wanting more out of my muscle car! I wanna get 25MPG with the AC on, I want a factory 500+ watt sterio, I want all the creature comforts that the new ones have.

Okay we're gonna have some friendly issues here...

Who in the hell lied to you and told you you'd get 25 mpg out of a 99-04 :nono:

Not gonna happen. At least not in the city.

2nd of all the 5.0 should only be a set of gears and exhaust away from the 99-01.

BUT, the creature comforts are GREAT. The 01GT is not as much a more comfortable car as it is a more easily driven car. It can hang a corner better (I now think), brake faster, romp on the highway faster, break down less often. The Mach 460 sound system rawks and it has faster windshield wipers :)

I see what you're saying, but I think you are making the 99-04's out to be a little more than they are. Yes they are a little faster stock for stock (I DO NOT agree with the 13 second statement at all) as they are low 14 sec cars.

Trust me I see exactly why you want one as I did too. But don't think you're going to start waxing 5.0's and camaros. Nor will you get good gas mileage ;)

Yep it was me:nice:

It was also a few years ago, parts availibility has went up and prices are going down.

My friends bolt-on/stage 2 cam car (everything else is stock dynoed 288rwhp in 100* heat the first time on the dyno. They said with some cooler weather they could tune it up to '300rwhp'.

Let's see a 5.0L (which has .4 liters more) dyno 288rwhp in 100* heat with just bolt-ons and a cam.:p This car runs full weight/full accessories too.

In your video, drivers played a big factor and tune.

I was quoting new prices if you had not noticed, go look on VT's site. Oh lookie there stroked 4.6 with stage 2 heads and VT cams is OMG $8200. Doesn't seem like the prices have come down very much if at all skippy.

NO in my video drivers DID NOT play a big factor NOR did tune, let's see we took off from a 45mph ROLL he know's how to drive his stang i know how to drive mine we were both in the right gears wow that pretty much takes out all driver error. As for tune why do you wanna argue that i'll prove you wrong again lol he had just had his car dyno tuned a week before hand my car had not even seen a dyno in it's life at the point tuning done via my own hands LOL.

You're crazy man! There is just something about these foxes that keeps me coming back, I just love the style, sound, simplicity to them. Thye 03-04 Cobra is really nice, but I could never see gettting rid of my fox for an S197. They just don't have the same appeal to me whatsoever.

5.0 wins coupe vs. coupe!

Strype - Nah man, just check out the 4.6L forums or even post a thread, you will get some answers then:nice:

I'm out of here before it gets ugly...

:nice: Thanks for the PM... I stand corrected buddy. I guess it's very possible. And it just swayed my whole arguement.

I'm about to go buy some bolt ons for the 01 :D

i dont understand why anyone is arguing anything. the guy wants to go modular and try something new... meh, ok. to each there own i guess. i know i personally love the sound of a 5.0 with a nice loping idle and i've been looking into the Monster Miatas... nope, not a fox, but how could would it be to have a 5.0 miata with a good h/c/i?(retoricle:p unless someone has a good response)

I've flirted with the 302 Miata idea... But everytime I pushed in the clutch, I always hit the brakes too... and when the top is up, OMG! Those things are small :) It would be cool though, like a poor man's AC Cobra. :)

I do want to add in the 4.6 vs 5.0 debate...

Me and a friend were on a cruise with a few other Mustangs. Well we wanted to run a car or two there and ended up side by side with a 99-04 GT. (Pro drivers on a closed course obviousely) From a second gear roll (4000 or so) we took the GT by maybe a car until part of the way through 5th. And we didnt pull till we hit the middle of 4th gear! What makes this story impressive are the mods on the cars...

Our Car: 88 LX hatch. Stock bottem end, AFR 165s, Edelbrock Vic Jr, Comp cam, all the bolt ons, long tubes, o/r X, SLPs dumped, 3.55s etc...

His car: 99-04 GT, Bone stock with an off road H and hacked together flowmaster CB!

The 88 hasent been tuned yet, but this GT did run side by side with a HCI fox!

I dunno about that, his fox must have been running like **** or the GT was lying to you. The only thing that runs side by side with me, with me using stock TB, MAF etc. etc. untuned is mach1's. Even then I still pull away by 4th gear. 99 04 GT's are pretty much a joke from a roll and from a stop its even worse, at least in my experiance.
