Hey guys I know a lot of people ask about what if this, what if that, 5.4 into mustang blah blah blah. Well I just finished mine so I thought I'd give people a chance to check out some good pictures. I used the stock 5.4 fuel rails, plenum, throttle body, lower intake. I used the 4.6 heads stage 2 ported with comp cams 268's I have 4.10 gears. My plans are for a lightning supercharger but we will see what happens. This thing feels incredible and it was DEFINITELY worth it. I only spent about 1000 bucks for parts and labor, but then again me and my buddy did it. The block has stock internals and is out of a 2001 expedition from bakersfield california. It had 25,000 miles on it. There are no 1/4 times or dyno numbers yet I have'nt gotten it tuned... But soon. This is a 2000 GT, with mach 1 interior, Grille delete, and rims. I can answer some questions if you guys have them. email me at [email protected]

Enjoy!

P.S. I have an off road h pipe on this and it is REDICUOUSLY loud, too loud. I will get some exhaust soud clips, its really deep and strong, doesnt sound hollow like 4.6's do.

Congrats on the swap. :nice: Detailed info on the swap? Harnesses, fab work? RWHP, TRQ #s?
I know a few folks would really like seeing how much is involved. I seen several over the years, but it's not as popular a swap as a SOHC to DOHC motor swap for whatever reasons.

Thanks for sharing. :hail2:

The engine sticks out about 4 inches about the hood, its only becuase I used the 5.4 intake manifold instead of getting adapters for the 4.6 (which really cuts off the air flow) I am ordering a 6 inch carbon fiber cowl hood. As the for headers stock 5.4 headers. The stock h pipe wont fit so we put the off road h pipe on there and beat the helll out of it so it would fit. WE also had to cut part of the bracket that bolts on to the header off.

The reason I didnt do a 4v 4.6 is becuase I wanted to be different. The reason I didnt do a 5.4 4.v is becuase I have always wanted a blower, its gonna cost be about 2,000 to get all the parts for a lightning blower and install it. It would be A LOT more to supercharger a 5.4 4v to much fabrication and I would have to go with an aftermarket blower, this way I can just buy the factory eaton.

As for torque we are estimating about 375 rear wheel. But I cant say for sure..

As for fabrication there was not too much. Like I had said in the previous post, if we had used the 4.6 intake with the adapters there would have been, almost none, and it would fit under the hood. But if you look at them, they really restict the air flow. So these are the modifications your gonna need to do if you use the 5.4 intake manifold which is rare, I dont know of anyone else with a 5.4 swap that used the 5.4 intake.

1. We had to get a smaller serpentine belt because the 5.4 uses one less idler pulley.

2. We had to use a different throttle cable, luckily we pulled it out of my buddies mach1 (which has no motor as of now) becuase it was a bit longer and worked perfectly fine.

3. We had to get a new heater hose.

4. We had to use the 5.4 return style fuel rails and cap off the returns. The 4.6 needed brackets to hold it down, and kept leaking.

5. Need a custom fabricated h pipe to fit if your going to use cats. The off road one can just be beat in a bit to fit.

6. You need the waterneck from 5.4 becuase the 4.6 one just doesnt work.

7. Buy a lot of tubing. The smog tubes that go to the intake and stuff didnt reach but that was no biggy. We just had some lying around that we used.

8. The EGR valve mounted in a different location so you have to get the tune the goes from the header to the EGR valve from the 5.4.

9. We had to extend a couple of the plugs from the wiring harness. Simple. Only 3

I cant think of any other problems, it dropped right in. We used my stock harness and wiring. Had to wiggle it in there but it fit. Motor mounts bolted up in the same location and everything. The only difference between the two blocks is that the 5.4 is a bit taller about 1 1/2.

Remember guys this is only if you use the 5.4 intake manifold, if you use the 4.6 you wont have most of those problems. Its actually a very simple swap.

can u explain more of this?
How does header(or Manihold for that matter) work? i've heard that 5.4 leave no room for that...

And who makes intake adaputer for 5.4block to 4.6intake?

I dont even know who makes the spacers. I knew I wasnt giong to use them so I didnt search for them. My friend told me about them but when he said 30 or so hp difference I said no way. 300 bucks for those of 450 for a new hood? Not really an choice for me. The stock shorty header has a metal tube that sgoes from it into the EGR valve(Smog). Well the way the pipe is made for the 4.6 its in a different location than the 5.4. So it is off by about 5 inches from what I remember. So we capped the header and the EGR valve. We ordered the 5.4 tube so that it will go to the right location. There is enough room. There is about an inch or so between the fender well and the heads which is where it comes up so it should fit.

No she still just calls me daddy. haha. I dont know if you know much about the smog laws in california, i dont know much about them in ohio, but I will get nailed if I take that shyte off.

And yes I plan on running the 1/4, to be honest I am so anxious to do it I wanna find someone with a G-Tech Pro. I know they are not exact but i wouldnt mind seeing the type of numbers it says Im putting out, it couldnt be too far off of those.

ohh and wms004 I dont mind what my numbers are, I know there a lot higher than the 4.6's and I already feel as though its worth it. All my buddies just think its the baddest thing they ever seen you know? Plus everywhere I go i can spot the car guys becuase they all come up to me and ask me what the hells going on under my hood. If you could hear this thing (im workin on it) you would think its worth it, it sounds awesome. Im admired kinda.. I just wanted to be different, too many supercharged GT stangs out there. This will be one of very very few supercharged 5.4 stangs (besides 07) but thats why I kept 2v instead of 4v. SOOOO much cheaper to supercharge it. Thats what its all about.. bang for the buck.
