5.4 swap- parts needed?

Im pretty sure they only put the 4.6 and I think the 4.0 in the explorer?

I think you need to modify the engine mounts, in most cases you need a good sized hood to clear the intake, as well as a host of other things. Forgot his screen name on here, but someone here did a 5.4 swap in one of the earlier 4.6 cars...he should have some good advice for you.

I'm currently looking to get a 5.4 soch engine (from explorer), what is all needed to swap it? anything special or could i swap over existing parts? anybody that's done this i need your help

If you are getting an motor out of an explorer than it is more than likely an 4.6. You need to look for an Expedition or F150 or even an Van. I usually come across used ones all the time...so let me know if you want me to look for you.

We have done many of these swaps. If you are wanting to do the 5.4 Swap I think that you will be more than happy with the out come. If you are staying N/A then there is not to much you have to alter. You mainly have to do a little bit of wiring. If you are worried about hood clearance then we can make you an tublar K-member with the motor mount perch's dropped down about an 1". But if you are staying N/A You shouldn't have an issue...it will be an tight fit all around though. The biggest thing that you have to think about is the intake. There are a couple of options. We can make adaptor plates so you can match up a stock 4.6 Intake to the 5.4. Or we can make you an custom intake. Its not as much money as what people will except. But it is about 400 dollars more than the intake adaptor plates. (If you are intersted in any of this PM me or email me). Now what that is going to allow us to do is get you the runner length to match up to your setup on the motor. If you are wanting to stay N/A or Supercharger or what ever...we can match up the runner length's so you can get the most out of the setup. We are doing two of the custom sheet metal intake right now....on two cars in the shop. I also recomend (But is not needed) putting an turblar K-member in while you do the swap. You can get the 5.4 to sit down on the stock K-member, but you are adding an additional wait to the front end. The tublar will allow you to drop some of the wait in the front in.....Which won't make the car so noise heavy. On the exhaust you do have to modify your exsiting xpipe or Hpipe. It will have to be widen a little bit. We also can make you an Xpipe if you are not wanting to modify yours. The swap isn't to bad. Just take your time with it and make sure if you do it your self that you have an extra two hands around...if you go to drop it in from the top of the car....ITs tight you have to angle it a certian way. Good luck. If you are intersted in doing the swap feel free to call me at the shop or email or PM me anytime. I will be more than glad to help out in any way that I can. We actually have a 5.4 here I think... But like I said we do have an kit that we can sell for people that want to do these installs. Hope that helped out a little bit. Good luck and let me know.
