5 leaf spring question

The previous owner put 5 leaf springs under my 65. The car sets up too high in the rear and is very stiff. Anyone removed the small lower spring and if so what results?
PS. swapped the 4 speed out for a C4 ( yea yea I know but I'm an old dude and don't wanna mess with shifting gears all the time) It was alot of work but well worth it. Having a donor car to get all the parts from sure made it easier.

As far as the leafs go, I was running stock with slapper bars. I bought a pair of leafs @

No slapper bars needed and the weight xsfer is outstanding, not to mention a very noticable lateral control improvement...cornering improved huge!
