offroad xpipe $200, magnaflow catback $300, and 76mm C&L maf with tube $220, timing at 15degrees with 93 octane, AND 3.73 gear$80, ford underdrive pulleys $75, nitto drag radials$300 265/50/16
So 875 dollors worth of mods and 300 dollors in tires and you can beat a z28....and if your running from stoplight to stoplight on a closed course he doesn't have much of a chance

An ls1 would pull on you hard anywhere from a roll:) They trap 7-10 mph faster than you.

Them cars are fast, I had a 95 t/a w/ lt1 6 spd, full msd ignition 3in y pipe to eddlebrock catback w/ eddlebrock longtubes set of richmond 4:10's.Them rears r pos, I had a hard launch one time comeing back from down the shore n shredded r/p Had to aaa it home... My friend has a 89 lx w/ explorer motor 4:10's and full exhaust. I had a bad opti and still pulled away from him with ease.. Get er wet. or just slap a 351 in that betch.

they were used about 3000miles on them I actually used the orginal bearings except for the pinion bearing which was 13 dollors crush sleave was 3dollors, and I installed it myself

I dont know how to install gears so I had them put in and the labor was $250, including rebuilding the traction loc unit.
I bought used gears for $100 but bought everything else new.

I've seen bone stock LS1 cars run 12.90s on slicks and i've seen stock 5.0s running 13.90s on slicks as well...a lot of it is how you drive it but i say you've got a whole second of ET to make up for.

Stock and Stock, the fox body mustang and LS1 camaro aren't in the same class. A near 20 year old car V. a 10 year old car, $17K price new V. $30K new, 225hp V. 325hp.
Its going to take alot of money to run the pace of the F-body. Gears and a MAF aren't going to get it done. You need a dramatic gain in HP to even come close.

Not to nit pick but 93+ LT1 came with a 6-speed stick or 4-speed auto and when I did gears in my 94 Formula 4.10's were not avaliable, only 4.11's:shrug:

The only way to beat an LSx is with another LSx:rolleyes:

Or a 32V Mach 1.... Those LS1's are fast, but Ive beat a couple of em with my 03 Mach...Granted Both were near stock & one was a heavy a$$ 04 GTO, but i still beat em...Now, in a 87-95 5.0, its gonna take quite a few mods to do so, but IMO u cant really compare the 2....I think a good HCI & gears would do the job pretty well, or at least give a stock LS1 a run for its money...If its a modded LS1, then forget about...

what exactly do you have done when you have your car tuned?

A chip or something?

I have no clue for all I know it could be filling it full of gas... ahah

(I am smarter then that just too let you know)

Correct about the t-56 and i must have misstyped ( it was late in the night when i typed it) But i had a set of richmond 4:10's in my 95, Along w/ new oil seals axle bearing carrier bearing pinion bearing etc. It was a fresh rebuild. Made a nice difference. I did end up breaking my trans mount on the car. 4:11's ? I got some old pics of the car when i first got it. Here yee go

This is a very hard point to discuss due to ignorance and run ins with crappy drivers. A lot of people have taken ls1's with bolt on foxes because of driver error, or the ls1 in question is a complete pile. Notice most of the 1/4 times posted were 13.40s-13.50s with a 2.1 or worse 60ft. So with a decent driver and a better short time, you're looking at 12s out of the box or with very mild mods. Like mentioned, most foxes struggle to get in the 13s with bolt ons. You're looking at 100hp and 1 sec difference. The average fox is going to need h/c/i and bolt ons to take a good running ls1 with a decent driver. If he's got bolt ons, gears and tires then you're gonna have a much tougher time. If he's got so much as a cam and a tune you might as well just wave and tell him nice car.

I am just being the devils advocate. It is possible for a bolt on foxbody to beat a STOCK LS1. I am not saying everyone in a fox can beat one but a good driver, and about 1000 dollors or less in the right mods can do it.

Id say it can be dont with Bolts on and a good set of tires. Traction is was wins street races. The ones i have bet have been bad drivers. If you can luanch a car good on the street and have a few good bolt ons you should have a problem with a bone stock Ls1 car. F body's are boat anchors, the are about 600-700lbs heavier then foxes so that makes up for the less hp the fox puts out.

The ls1's could be had for 22k in '98. Particularly the 1LE package.

jhonda - Those stock times are not impressive at all for the ls1. I have been around several of each and raced/drove several of each. You are going to need h/c/i to actually compete or beat an ls1, and not do any weight saving mods.

Driver vs. Driver, LS1 > Bolt-On Fox.

No, God did not make the ls1;)

But, from the factory there is no need to compare in my opinion.
