5th gear sounds weird...

When I start driving, every gear sounds smooth and healthy going into except 5th gear! As soon as I enter 5th it almost sounds like a bearing that spins? Also as I excelerate upwards to 70mph the sound goes away. I run premium octane of course. I do not think that it is the throwout bearing, but I also do not know a whole lot about clutches/trannys. The car has 44k miles, and has 3:73 gears. Please help...

Is it like a howling noise or a winding noise or what? Where does it sound like it's coming from?

It sounds like a washer spinning on a bolt. Now Thats what noise I think it sounds like, but I am also not an expert either. It sounds like its coming from inside the center console near the shifter.

have you checked the fluid in the trans lately ?
are you bogging the 5th gear (too slow) for 5th when you shift?
