get some traction with some Drag Radials. i used to get 2.0's on the stock goodyears.
is your stang completely stock ? what have you done to it ?
for the stock tires you want to lower your tire pressure. a burnout before the run will not help you out too much on stock tires. there is really nothing much else to do besides getting drag radials or other suspension parts. even then there will not be a huge difference because the stock tires don't really stick that well or respond the same way drag or slicks do to stiffer suspension.

I ran the GT last night at the track for the first time, after buying it last weekend. It was my first time at a track to.
Here are my times:
r/t - .437
60 - 2.307
330 - 6.210
1/8 - 9.410
1/8 MPH - 76.97
1000 - 12.130
1/4 - 14.406
MPH - 99.08
I pretty much bogged off the line, and just went for it. My second run I experimented 'launching' from about 2k and just spun, horrible 60' times and ran a 15.08 @ 99 (wierd I ran that with my 14.4 pass also).
Plan to be out there again next weekend with some adjustments to the front sway bar to lower my R/T and 60' and hopefully get a lower ET.

I had My 04 at Brainerd International Raceway last night for the first street drag event of the year. My first time running a 5-speed at a dragstrip 
My best run of the night was a 14.50 at 97 with a 2.2 60 foot For my lack of 5-speed experience I am not too dissapointed. I tried launching at around 2000 RPM's on my runs but was unable to hook up very well. I am pricing a set of Nitto 555R's right now. I took off My stock Goodyears and ran a set of 245-45-17 Eagle F1 tires off a co-workers Vette. Afer running them last night I think that was a mistake. I tried airing them down, but because they have run-flat sidewalls I lost traction and went slower. Those tires are going in the trash 
My theory is the stiff sidewalls distorted the tread at low tire pressure and I lost traction. I did have a great time and beat a 69 Olds 442, the owner was talking trash about how he would kick My ass, He wouldnt talk after our race

Smokin' and stang23456 - I found that with stock gearing/stock goodyears, I hooked best keeping the rpms at around 3K and slipping the clutch. Definitely requires good touch, and I never got all that good at it with this set-up. Best 60' I could muster and either of the two tracks I go to was around 2.15.
Stock Goodyears/4.10s - I found the best 60' times required me to just walk it out of the hole from around idle with a little bit of clutch slip. This netted me a low of 2.08 60 foots, but that was the best and not my norm. Still, my 60's were regularly 2.13-2.15 with this set-up and technique.
BTW, I always hooked worse with the stock goodyears if I lowered the tire pressure to less than 22 psi. I understand some folks have had good luck with the stock tires at lower psi but that wasn't my personal experience. Also, I never did a burnout with stock tires - only lit them up for a second to clean them off a little.
Now, I have Nitto DRs but I'm far from maximizing my launch potential with these tires. So far, I've netted a 2.0X by doing a 1st gear burnout for 4 seconds and launching it at around 2K with almost no clutch slippage. Any higher, and I would spin and net a high 2.1X 60'. This Friday, I'll try to do a second gear burnout and let her go at around 3k if the track is sticky. We'll see how that works!
Good luck. The more you visit the track, the better you'll get - no doubt. I'm sure you can at the very least net a 2.15 on those tires, which should put you at low-low 14s.
