I finally found a near perfect original right fender for my 65 Stang at a swap meet. It looks like it's never been hit, I stripped it to bare and no evidence of any collision repair. I put it on and the upper part above the sharp belt line where it meets the door is a good 1/4" flatter than the door curve. I checked both doors and other fender and the profiles all match. I was going to beat some more curve into it but the lower front where the stone guard/valance attach is also way off, more like 3/8" difference in the low spot of the profile, also the front foot or so where it bolts to the inner fender is about 5 washers high. For this fender to have ever fit, the rest of the car would have had to be way different than the regular ones. Re-pop fenders fit better, at least in these areas. I'm baffled and stuck with going with one of the less than perfect ones I have. This is basically a curiousity post, has anyone seen anything like this?
